  1. Re: The cranky thread The thought of going to the clinic tomorrow is making my stomach surge and my eyes tear up. I'm going to start crying there tomorrow, and the nurses are going to ask me what's wrong, and I'm going to have to bite my tongue, because my answer would be very, very rude. I need a hug, and my wife is asleep. Dammit.
  2. Re: Ben 10: Alien Force -Season 3 (6E) For the record, that PrC was called the Ultimate Magus ... and it seems that Gwen lived up to the title, at least for a little while.
  3. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Speedball. Awesome when written by Fabian Nicieza, something that everybody at Marvel Comics completely forgot.
  4. Re: Ben 10: Alien Force -Season 3 (6E) I read it as, there are two ways to access mana. Either inborn via alien powers, or learning via spells. Not unlike sorcerers and wizards in D&D.
  5. Re: A Thread for Random Videos A little bit of Dancing with the Stars ... I suspect most boardgoers will be more interested in the choice of song and a couple of guest stars, though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVNoo649puU
  6. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Nothing unusual. It's just a superstition.
  7. Re: Quantum of Time I disagree. Game balance, especially, trumps anything resembling 'realism', and simplicity is something HERO needs more of. Doing it for the sake of game balance and simplicity makes perfect sense, and I have yet to encounter anybody who felt that the rule was, in any way, jarring.
  8. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Terminator: The Sarah Palin Chronicles
  9. Re: Morgaine the Mystic of Crimelords Since there are people in the CU who can create custom-made superhumans, 1 seems to be obvious. Since Sapphire is publically outed as a mutant, and Morgaine's background specifies she was outed as a true mystic, 2 seems obvious as well. Sapphire's popularity is certainly enhanced by her superhuman status; however, her superhuman powers do not enhance her ability to perform, whereas Morgaine's powers were the sole reason she was able to put on performances. A few superheroes in the CU have chosen to use their superhero status to join the ranks of celebrities ... Sapphire, Teen Dream, Cavalier ... but most of them seem to be more concerned about just being the good guys rather than trying to be famous.
  10. Re: A Thread for Random Videos You'll either think this is funny and cute, or phenomenally stupid.
  11. Re: Morgaine the Mystic of Crimelords Perhaps more to the point, Sapphire's powers have nothing to do with her performance. She's a light projector (basically), but her primary talent is singing, which her powers don't help with. Morgaine used her powers as the primary source of her performance, replacing actual talent on stage. If Sapphire were a sound manipulator, and used her hypnotic voice to bolster her fanbase ("It was much better than Cats. We will see it again and again."), there would be a comparison.
  12. Re: Quantum of Time Game Balance and Simplicity are sufficient reasons for me to not monkey with it.
  13. Re: Whirlwind Pyramid (a.k.a. Tornado Fighter) attack: how would you write this up? I pondered this a while back while trying to figure out how to do a conglomerate weapon like the Power Rangers' Power Blaster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlNzTnqMfoo My thinking for the Whirlwind is something on the order of... Xd6 EB, AE Radius, Personally Immune, Usable by 1 other, miscellaneous limitations to taste. This helps split up the cost amongst the team; I haven't seen that show since the seventies, so I can't recall if smaller units could perform the attack with weaker results (but hey, who cares about canon?).
  14. Re: Morgaine the Mystic of Crimelords It makes sense to me ... half of the fun of watching a stage magician is wondering 'how'd he do that?'. Suddenly ... you have an answer. Not quite so entertaining.
  15. Re: Blasts that leak power out the sides. The first thing I thought of was an episode of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends where the Beetle got his electro-stings so juiced up that, to quote Spider-Man, "He even hits you when he misses!"
  16. Re: A Storeowner's First Impression Am I the only person here annoyed by the use of the word 'convert'? It's a game system, not a religion.
  17. Re: Lock-On System I'm thinking Lock-on was a poor choice of words, but I couldn't think of any other way to describe it. It's more like a 'safety', I think. It's an instant thing; the weapon is programmed that it will not fire unless what's directly in front of the barrel is a designated target. Imagine if you could wave an Uzi around in a crowded room, and it wouldn't fire unless an actual enemy was in front of the barrel.
  18. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Actually ... that would be a significant improvement in the artwork, and the story couldn't get any worse.
  19. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "My wife was nagging me for four different things at the same time last night. She's learned how to multi-tsk."
  20. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine edit: Never mind, works now. Musta just been a hiccup in the series of tubes.
  21. Re: Ben 10: Alien Force -Season 3 (6E) I'm still wondering if Chromastone got integrated into Diamondhead and combined their abilities. There's absolutely no evidence to support that theory ... but it'd be COOL.
  22. Re: Ben 10: Alien Force -Season 3 (6E) I dunno about anybody else, but I didn't see any new alien tricks in 'If All Else Fails'. I haven't looked at the Swampfire writeup, but I can't imagine 'brain infested by plant-like alien' to be a frequent enough occurance to create a power to cover.
  23. Re: A Storeowner's First Impression Really really. It's just a picture. What matters is the rules, how they play, and all that jazz. Outside of charts, graphs, and maps, and perhaps pictures in Enemies/Monsters books, I would be quite happy with artless books. And that means ... what now?
  24. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Ocean's 13 Ghosts Of Scooby-Doo Then ... Richie Cunningham, tired of being constantly broke, manipulates his motorcycle-riding friend into creating a fraudulent investment operation in the Happy Days episode we had to call ... "Fonzi Scheme"
