  1. Re: Automaton Powers in 5th Ed Well, technically, a PC can't take Automaton powers because, well, you can't take them without being an Automaton, and with no Ego, no self-will and that sort of thing, you don't make a very good PC. Blah blah GM permission blah special cases blah blah. I'm not sure it's technically board-legal for me to post the numbers, in any event ...
  2. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "Gimme an X! Gimme an M! Gimme an A! Gimme an S! What's that spell?" (Get it? Christmas cheer?)
  3. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "Millennium Falcon, you are cleared for approach on Runway 4. Enterprise, please maintain holding pattern."
  4. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "Our building will look like a giant pie, but it'll be on a narrow spindle ... what do you mean, Space Needle?"
  5. Re: Faith, Courage and Humble Obedience I'd base it on Ego on the principle that faith is basically a Psychological Limitation ('Follows InsertReligionHere Devoutly"), and thus any ability to overcome that limitation would require an Ego roll.
  6. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares I know it has to have been done by now, but it came up at a game of Apples to Apples this week (both were cards in my hand) Batman and Robin Hood (not Green Arrow!)
  7. Re: The cranky thread Wow, I post to this thread a lot, don't I? Today, I'm coughing so hard that it's making my chest hurt. I took some Robotussin last night, but it only seems to have made things worse. I got next to zero sleep (but on the upside, I got a new Warren Zevon CD to listen to while not sleeping).
  8. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. You know Owen K.C. Stephens? Awesome!
  9. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat A visit from my mother. NT: Since I do this one every year ... inappropriate gifts for the Wise Men to bring to Bethlehem.
  10. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat It's called BarneyCon.
  11. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread Had a decent birthday. Good dinner, spent some time with my friends playing the pirate-themed Munchkin game, and won. Go, British Navy. Best friend got me some nice presents, but the best present actually came from the Social Security Department, telling me that my disability determination has gone through and that I won't have to get a lawyer or go to a hearing.
  12. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Tim Conway in the latest video game craze ... DORF FORTRESS
  13. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Getting my wife a replacement coffee maker. As bad as the crowds are going to be on Black Friday, the thought of my wife having to go without coffee much longer is even more terrifying.
  14. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat ... a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind; a journey into an emo land where vampires sparkle in the daylight. That's the signpost ahead. Next stop -- The Twilight Zone.

  16. Re: How would you build this? Depending on how it swings in the game, it could be a Distinctive Feature ... it'd make other people jealous and angry that he keeps 'stealing their thunder' and 'taking credit' for their contributions, people would try to lead him away or find ways to keep him out of competitions. It could very well be a bigger pain in the butt than a benefit.
  17. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Here's a song that'll make you feel much better about life!
  18. Re: Game Master Lament Eh, just look over the Wikipedia entry (the modern version of Cliff's Notes), then it's covered.
  19. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Land of the LOST -- well, basically LOST, plus dinosaurs ...
  20. Re: Game Master Lament No, you game with people who like movies and like novels, or at least like the ones you told them to read. Had you told them to read or watch something they didn't like, I suspect the results would have been different. Either that, or they'd lie to you.
  21. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Holy crap. My arteries hardened just READING that.
  22. Re: Game Master Lament Lemming has it right. Plan a session for character creation, and show whichever version of the movie you like best before making the characters. I have to admit, if a GM told me 'you have to do homework' for a game, I'd be tempted to blow it off as well. Even if they like Musketeer-style games, that doesn't mean they're going to like the movies you assigned them, and they're certainly not going to waste 90 minutes watching it. I can't imagine assigning homework for a game. Recommending things, perhaps. Asking 'have you seen such-and-such?', certainly. But saying 'you have to watch this before I run the game?' Ridiculous. It's also entirely possible they get the Musketeer thing and don't need to do the homework. If you have to put more work into a game than you get fun out of it, it's not a game. It's work.
