  2. Re: A Thread for Random Videos When I was that age, they called it healthy energy. Now they call it a sugar rush.
  3. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Alas, according to the Mary Sue, it's just an April Fools joke. Bummer

  5. Re: A Thread for Random Videos I bring you propaganda, mostly anti-American, some more subtle than others. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKmYynSkcRg Spoilered for language ("Effing" USA song): As far as I can tell, North Korea portrays the U.S. as an occupying force in South Korea, awaiting its chance to do the same to North Korea. The imagery in the two "Effing USA" videos makes it clear why we aren't liked in some corners of the world. It doesn't matter if the propaganda is false, so long as it's believed. Incidents like what was allowed to happen at Abu-Graib are worse than any propaganda, because it undermines our credibility as "good guys". (I hold the commanding officers at greatest fault here, for failing to uphold international law as they were supposed to).

  8. Re: I have a dream. (and MAN was it wierd!) Are you perchance thinking of Phil, the Prince of insufficient light?
  9. Re: A note on starship design: the engines point down. In the film 2010, they did some very convincing wire work and other zero-gee FX even before CG made "erasing" the wires possible. It can be done, but you don't often see that kind of craftsmanship in modern cinema.
  10. Re: A note on starship design: the engines point down. I've watched practically every cheesy (and not-so-cheesy) space-flick filmed before 1980, and I can tell you with authority that most sci-fi movies had one scene where a wrench or a crewmate floated up off the floor, then they (more often than not) put on their "magnetic boots", turned on the "artificial gravity" or just plain ignored weightlessness throughout the rest of the flick. Some of Apollo 13 was filmed aboard NASA's "Vomit Comet", but then with the rising cost of JP-4 (or whatever they're using now) I suspect we may never see its use again.
  11. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Watched Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster in Japanese with English subtitles. I think that movie may have been the one that transformed Gojira from a seriously scary movie monster into a big, scaly Muppet. Enjoyable only because the 10-year-old kid in me is alive and well.

  14. Re: A Thread for Random Videos But wait! There's more!! Cigarette ads look pretty quaint nowadays, but I remember watching the Flintstones and never batting an eye when they pitched cigarettes.

  18. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Godzilla Raids Again, wherein Gojira is referred to as a fire monster and as Anguirus, and fights another monster called an Anguilas. Gojira is skinny and makes sounds assigned only to Anguirus in later movies.
