Once something gets peed on, it's really hard to get the pee smell out of things. Try using a solution of vinegar/water. (and then a normal wash cycle)

My grandmother was a big packrat, so I had lots of old stuff to go through. Too bad she was cheap and paranoid, so we didn't get the roof fixed. A lot of stuff that may have been sold was ruined.

One way before defrag utilities were available was to copy everything to a new drive, format the old one and copy back. Note that is the very simplistic explanation.
