  1. Re: Realistic Monetary Systems in FH I've always liked the idea of differentiating monies for campaign purposes without necessarily messing with exchange rates. Coinage from foreign lands could come in the form of rings, or sticks, or squares. If purity can be determined, coins could be converted on the basis of weight. And we had one campaign where the gold coins brought up from the ancient ruins were clearly identifiable as such, and when the PCs started spending them, it attracted a lot of attention...
  2. Re: Realistic Monetary Systems in FH I'd be inclined to go halfway and perhaps abandon the decimal system, but still use some regular progression such that I could still do the math easily in my head. If 1 gold = 8 silver = 64 copper, that's still way easier for me than this: Only the English could think up a monetary system like that.
  3. Re: "Neat" Pictures How old are those plates?

  6. Re: Why I prefer HERO System over Pathfinder/OGL/D&D for fantasy A good approach, and one I've used in the past. But you have to be careful because I some players will try to take advantage of it...
  7. Re: More space news! The question then becomes, are the Kafers in that slice of sky? Or more realistically, has our Kepler found any candidate systems in it?
  8. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. Wait--she posted on FB in her sleep?
  9. Re: Why I prefer HERO System over Pathfinder/OGL/D&D for fantasy Oh, I understand that there is no money to be made in printing modules. But my point, which I have been repeating for the past couple of decades or so, is that you still need them to create and support a customer base. Look at how many people just in this thread are posting "I love FH but it is too much work." A majority of my best FH experiences came out of converted D&D modules. Isn't that sad?
  10. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread Congrats to Chad for finding an employer with half a clue. He'll do fine unless it's one of those jobs where you get penalized for thinking.

  12. Re: The cranky thread That can be arranged.
  13. Re: The cranky thread Soon my army of invincible android slaves will be complete!
  14. Re: The cranky thread Fine, fine, I'll also get you an indestructible immortal smokin' hot android body. With the pain receptors jacked up to 11.
  15. Re: The cranky thread Okay, two indestructible, immortal android bodies.
  16. Re: The cranky thread No, what we really need to do is create an indestructible, immortal android body and transplant your brain into it. Meanwhile, does anyone know why the advanced-search button is getting placed about 100,000 pixels to the right? It's making the boards really, really wide. I'm on Mac Firefox if it helps.
  17. Re: The cranky thread And p*ss off the nurse that pokes him with needles?
  18. Re: "Neat" Pictures No, the award for best heavy metal umlaut usage goes to Queensrÿche. Spinal Tap's is a close second. Because Wikipedia is awesome (and back online) I refer you to the Wikipedia page that is solely dedicated to heavy metal umlaut usage.
  19. Re: Cool Guns for your Games It is pronounced "coke" according to http://www.hk-usa.com. But that is not how I pronounce it.
  20. Re: More space news! More difficult because it's different. There's no highly reactive oxygen, but then you can't just ship over slightly modified versions of the fossil fuel-driven equipment we use here, either. You would have to invent a low-g, hard vacuum, remotely operated ore processing and machining operation from scratch. Over the long term it'd still be the way to go, but it will take a while before it'd be cheaper than just launching from Earth where all the manufacturing is, despite the higher g.
  21. Re: More space news! This more or less matches up with what I was thinking.
