  1. Re: Maximus Decimus Meridus Works for me. You going to do Commodus next? He has many virtues, though none of them were on Marcus Aurelius' list.
  2. Re: Musings on Random Musings It might be more fair to punish people for doing stupid things, as opposed to being stupid. I've done more than enough stupid things in my life that I think the negative reinforcement might help.
  3. Re: The cranky thread Aw, man. I've had to do that before. Both times the cat was suffering too much. It's better this way but it's still not easy.
  4. Re: Musings on Random Musings Been there done that. I double-majored in CS and physics. Well played.
  5. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. First Boy has a new classmate named "Shade". And of course "Oshyn" returned from last year.
  6. Re: Campaign Classics: Vikings Finally managed to locate my Arabian Nights. It's one of the Rolemaster genre books that was exactly like the Campaign Classics series, only before they started calling them that. Anyway, IRC--there is no Fantasy Hero information in it, and in fact there's very little Rolemaster in it except for the critters. The book is very short on crunch and very long on excellent background for running an Arabian Nights/Sinbad campaign.
  7. Re: Tolkien Elves in Hero Never stopped Congress.
  8. Re: The cranky thread Hmm, I may have to have Taco Bell for lunch now.
  9. Re: More space news! They're going to broadcast the landing live in Times Square. Could this project possibly be any more doomed?
  10. Re: Cool Guns for your Games Sodium Chloride Pump Action Shotgun
  11. Re: Dirty Laundry I didn't care for the ending, but otherwise, yeah.
  12. Re: Fantasy worlds you had to "rework" years later once you've grown up and knew bett I'd hack Turakian Age by making at least half of it sink beneath the sea. That setting was just too damn big. Wait--first I'd populate half of it with tieflings, kender, and drow. Then I'd make that half sink beneath the sea.
  13. Re: Campaign Classics: Vikings Thread necromancy aiiieeeee! The Arabian Nights one was only Rolemaster IIRC. And I'll have to dig up that and Pirates to see what is worth converting. Might have to wait a day or two, this is the week of first days of school and work for most of the people in the house.
  14. Re: Anyone have pre-made star ships??? That's what I used to use my Physics II lecture for. Up until I bombed a midterm anyway.
  15. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Perl saves the day again!
  16. Re: Tolkien Elves in Hero The one elven instance from LOTR that sticks out in my memory was when Legolas spotted Eomer's patrol approaching from five leagues away... and counted them, and described them as 'fair-haired'. Note: For the love of the Silmarils, do not google for any combination of legolas and eomer.
  17. Re: "Neat" Pictures You know, the first Machete was surprisingly not bad.
  18. Re: I have a dream. (and MAN was it wierd!) A 'mirren' is a small, reflecting pond or pool with slight waves or ripples in the surface. To 'mirren' something is to reflect or copy it almost, but not quite, exactly. Entirely made up, of course.
  19. Re: Fantasy worlds you had to "rework" years later once you've grown up and knew bett I tended to focus more on fleshing out or customizing small corners of published game worlds. Originally this was an offshoot of 'retired' characters establishing their own holdings, but the interactions of those holdings with the surrounding areas drove me to start redefining those surrounding areas. My version of the Duchy of Tenh didn't really match the description in the book by the time I was done with it. Like Bunneh I also made an archipelago world inspired by Earthsea, but I included versions of every possible seafaring culture so that I could have quasi-Greek triremes against Chinese junks and Viking longships. It didn't hold together very well. If I were to rework it today I'd probably increase the weirdness of the different cultures so as to make it clash a little less.
  20. Re: The cranky thread Up at 4am to make the 6am flight to the 10am meeting. Deep sleprived.
  21. Re: I have a dream. (and MAN was it wierd!) As a parent, the only thing about this that makes me wonder is, how well did it work?
  22. Re: The cranky thread Big conference on Thursday at which we are supposed to demonstrate a fairly complex demo. I was supposed to have last week and this week to set it up. Instead someone decided that another dog and pony show last week had to take precedence and could not be rescheduled, so I lost last week. And I have to spend Wednesday traveling. So now I have two days left. Naturally, the people who cost me last week are, this week, freaking out.
