  1. For one of his yuletide presents, oldest boy got a triops aquarium. "Wtf is a triops?" I asked. Well... Apparently these haven't evolved since I was a boy, but what's really astonishing about them is the growth rate. We set up the tank and put the eggs in a couple of days after Christmas, and quickly three of these things hatched. They were 2mm long at most--almost imperceptible white specks that looked like miniature brine shrimp. Today the lone survivor, which has apparently embiggened itself at the expense of its comrades, is already 15mm in length and is visible from across the room. I'm not sure how big it is going to get. If it gets as big as some of the ones I'm seeing in pictures online, it's going to be a problem at some point.
  2. This being Hero, the correct answer is to build a completely new, custom forum for Urban Fantasy from scratch. Probably using a multipower.
  3. Yeah, I hate those. F**k cancer, but in particular f**k superfast cancers that kill you before you have time to go "Wait-- what?"
  4. Good grief. Sorry to hear it, L. Marcus. Although at least the dementia is over.
  5. I was entertained. And glad I don't live in Florida.
  6. I was always a fan of Strikeforce: Morituri.
  7. Resistant offenses? Is that a 6th ed thing?
  8. What if the superpowers were fatal?

    SF Rant

Jump-capable fighters mainly exist or don't exist depending on whether it is important to the author to have aircraft-carrier equivalent spacecraft in the milieu. I don't rant about that. I rant about the silliness of space fighters in general. I think laser weapons are, finally, right around the corner IRL. They will first be deployed as anti-missile defenses but will radically change air combat, and will become very important in any space combat scenario for time-to-target reasons.
  10. Is "squire" some sort of new, deep insult?
  11. I'm wearing one under my clothes. Here, I'll send you a picture:
  12. Not yet... I've seen this sort of split-rights arrangement blow up, though, for example with Feng Shui and Traveller. You wind up with a proliferation of vetoes. Don't think Steve Long is the same way but then I've never had the honor of meeting him.
  13. Really tired of being the one who has to keep it together for the holidays. What I really want to do is kick people in the face. I'm having a real tkdguy moment.
  14. Like Bolo I haven't been interested in modern MMORPGs. Maybe it's because I played too many MUDs back in the day, but from what I've seen, there's just too much time spent commuting and mining for stuff, and combat is just a preprogrammed series of moves where movement is irrelevant.
  15. I've seen like every other Potter film, so I have a really hard time keeping the stories straight in my head. Read every book though.
  16. Drove past the president of the United States on the way home from dinner. I assume he was on his way to dinner himself. The motorcade was dragging a small tour bus; I wonder if it contained journalists.
  17. I've seen those in real life. I think there was one requiring three years of experience with Microsoft Hyper-V in 2010, a year after it came out. The other was for five years of VMware vSphere 5 experience in 2011, before it had even been released.

  19. I'm sorely tempted to put in pregen characters that are impossible or not competitive in other systems. A wizard with a sword. An experienced but aged warrior with underwhelming physical stats. A lightly armored fighter. A clergyman who's a thief. There pretty much has to be an elf, though. Honestly I still prefer the original no-framework magic 'system'. It's simpler. Points cost could be an issue. I'd avoid charges because I'd like to get away from Vancian magic. I think that's another good selling point for FH over other systems.
