  1. Hmm. Well, I don't know how your blockhead works, but the couple of times I used them, I sat in a pop-up office and watched the nice lady basically type my info into their equivalent of TurboTax for me. There was no analysis or advice involved. So far this epoch I've been using a CPA. My taxes got way complicated around the turn of the century and it was nice to be able to just take all my forms in a big envelope and drop it all off and write a check later. It's kind of stupid now because it's expensive and my taxes aren't nearly as complex as they once were, but I feel like the only other valid option is TurboTax, and, no.
  2. They are refunding your fees, of course, since you're having to do the work yourself anyway. Right?
  3. To quote another board, "This acquittal's gonna sting."
  4. It occurred to me today that Max Schreck, with his giant capacitor, would be a hero today, solving the storage issues for solar and wind power in one fell swoop. He wouldn't have had to defenestrate Selina at all!
  5. Meanwhile, fixing your AK47 with rubber bands and a Sharpie: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/04/06/rubber-band-powered-ak/
  6. Interestingly I found an article this morning about how a forest fire around the Chernobyl area could kick up all the fallout and send it skyward again. Fukushima would be a joke if it didn't mean the radioactive contamination of an entire province and a large patch of Pacific Ocean. If I were a terrorist bent on wrecking Japan's ocean food supply I could hardly do worse than TEPCO over the past four years.
  7. First thing I thought when I saw that was "is it dishwasher safe?"
  8. Carly's tenure is when HP's corporate culture went full Dilbert. I knew an HP engineer back then who literally had fifty hours of meetings in their calendar. Carly's sole purpose as CEO appears to have been merging HP and Compaq into something that was far less competitive than either entity had been on its own. Not that Meg is any improvement.

  10. HP went off into the weeds back in the Carly days, around the turn of the century, and has been lost ever since. Since then it's been palace intrigue at the top while the proletariat struggle on with no direction or support. (And by palace intrigue I mean it--spies, betrayal, everything short of murder. )
  11. Why were they shooting at you?
  12. Pedophile beaten unconscious by child's father gets 25 years Not really a "dumb criminal" story, but as a father I approve.
  13. Wow, I knew we hadn't had any here for a while, but I didn't know they were almost extinct. How sad.
  14. Sue and win, because the law states that you can't discriminate against people based on their orientation.
  15. I'm not sure these are equivalent. It's not clear to me that the customer in the example is being discriminated against based on age, skin color, or sexual orientation.
  16. Yeah, I would f__king flip the table if someone used that term while canning me.
  17. What's the difference? And can you get me a beer while you're up?
  18. Maybe most police are bad. I'm not seeing any systemic changes being made in the face of this incredible wave of police brutality reports. I'm not seeing the outcry from all the good cops about the bad ones making them look bad. I dunno.
  19. Look, obviously not all cops are bad. But enough of them are, and enough more just look the other way, that it's now causing this huge trust problem. Rose is hardly the only one. The United States is not a place where we're supposed to fear cops. Respect them, certainly. But it now really seems as though cops in many jurisdictions have been issued a license to kill, and that's extremely wrong. Ever since Ferguson, the light has been shone on instances of killer cops all over the country. Arizona. NYPD. LAPD. New Mexico. Cleveland. We get new reports of unarmed Americans getting gunned down by police almost every single day now! It's almost impossible to keep track. Perhaps Rose is not justified in painting all cops with his broad brush, but he's way more justified today than he was a year ago.
  20. I know right? Life would be soooo much easier if we chose to be gay. I mean, who doesn't like to be beaten to death for no reason?
  21. Impossible. I don't discriminate between humans based on appearance. Only on flavor.
  22. That's one thing I never will understand about you humans.
