This is pretty much how I feel. I've gotten pretty good about pretending there aren't problems, but the reality is that after four consecutive layoffs I'm in a financial hole that I don't think I'm ever really going to get out of--especially not when you consider the even bigger problem that I'm living with at home. Last week I finally ran out of options and money and started drawing on my 401k to cover the bills. Only two years ago I swore I would commit seppuku before resorting to that, and yet here I am. Some time in the next few years I am going to have to blow it all up and start over. Until then it's easy to feel like the current downward trajectory is terminal.

I became much happier when I drastically lowered my expectations for humans. I mean, they still find ways to not meet them, but at least I'm not surprised by the run-of-the-mill stupid that I encounter during my commute, or at work.

I think it's an improvement just because it makes the team seem more realistic. You have to understand that living where I do, when I see a group of people on screen and they're uniformly white and mostly male, it just looks weird.

I'm actually concerned about that. Our corporate overlords have hit upon a winning formula, and have gone into full afterburner.
