  1. Yeah, you should see the s__tstorm around the Thirty Meter Telescope proposal right now.
  2. Depending on your definition of "left", since he was still involved in Bain operations and made millions off that particular deal.
  3. In fact the number of windmills is increasing rapidly now that renewable energy is cost competitive with fossil fuels! And with steel and composite construction, and turbine blade tip speeds approaching 200 mph, tilting at windmills is not child's play!
  4. Trying = risking, so, yeah.
  5. Almost as nice as college girls out of sun dresses.
  6. It's plain risk analysis. You are spending one hundred meeeeellion dollars of someone else's money on a comic book superhero movie; if it fails you are jobless and homeless. Who do you alienate--the 90% of the population who are reasonably willing to see it, or the 5% of hardcore fanbois who will complain endlessly about costume brightness on the internet and then pay to see the movie anyway?
  7. Yeah, if I ever meet the guy who invented Taleo, he's going to get a really intimate tour of my power tool collection.
  8. Kay-Bee was intentionally destroyed by Mitt Romney and his private equity firm. Its carcass was bought out by TRU. Otherwise the toy market favors large retailers who can negotiate better discounts and/or deal direct with Chinese manufacturers.
  9. Are you one of those kids nowadays with no knowledge of or appreciation for classic music?
  10. TRU usually has good prices when there are sales but regular pricing is meh or a little high. Kmart/Walmart were the place for deals on Lego 15 years ago but today I think it's basically a wash between them and Target. I think the one or two times I walked into an FAO Schwartz the prices were ludicrous--like 2-3 times what they would have been anywhere else. I wondered how they stayed in business.
  11. Disconcerting when a tiltrotor crashes half a mile from your bedroom. At least the house doesn't smell like JP-4 any more.
  12. Styrofoam would also be a great thermal insulator in double pane windows.
  13. ...I'm sorry, did you say something?
  14. The Dick Tracy film was a good example. Many flamboyantly dressed characters, including the lead, who was literally in a yellow suit. It's hard to pull off, though. Reeve's Superman dates from the late seventies and early eighties when no one had any fashion sense whatsoever.
  15. Well, the tinnitus still isn't as annoying as the voices. So it could be worse.
  16. For every Bundy and Tsarnaev there seem to be dozens of people unjustly imprisoned or put on death row. It's an affront that these types might live out their lives at taxpayer expense but otherwise there's no undo button. That plus it seems to be extraordinarily difficult to pull off a successful execution nowadays. (Legal execution that is. Cops gunning people down in the street like dogs is working just fine.)
  17. I just think of all these highly paid Hollywood types get paid ludicrous sums to sit around and read classic comics. :envy:
  18. I've had it before, but this latest instance has been going for four or five days now. It's getting old.
