  1. Re: Iron Skies Trailers Who said that the motorcycle in the second trailer was using an internal combustion engine? Given the quality of German engineering and inventiveness, I wouldn't be surprised if the Space Nazis came up with a high-performance electric motor to take the place of the IC engines in their vehicles. 2. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Somehow, I expect that the phrase "Oh, Volkk me..." doesn't begin to come close to describe Polonius' horror about his new circumstances (). Major Tom 2009
  3. Re: Dr Zero's Art Thread A classic example of a Rottedweiler if ever there was one ()... Major Tom 2009
  4. Re: Iron Skies Trailers Odd that you should mention that. I had made a similar comment over on one of the Iron Sky threads at the Starship Combat News discussion board; only my thought was that the Space Nazis would find it very difficult to function in Earth's gravity. Either that, or the same thing that happened to the Martians in The War of the Worlds would happen to the Space Nazis -- and wouldn't that be a shame ()? Major Tom 2009
  5. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Arc: PM sent. Major Tom 2009
  6. Re: Guess the inspiration behind this superteam! A Czechoslovakian story, eh? I thought it was a Norwegian story, but then again, it's been several years since I originally read it. Major Tom 2009
  7. Re: Guess the inspiration behind this superteam! OK, I guess no one else is going to take a guess, so I'll spill the beans. The characters that inspired my "superteam" were Longshanks, Girth, and Keen, from a Norwegian children's story of the same name (I think it was one of Hans Christian Andersen's, but I'm not sure). 8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Sounds like the prep crew down in the really Deep South had better get McGinty's level ready for him... it looks like he's going to need it. Major Tom 2009
  9. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares "And now for your first mission... you must fly to post #4661 and terrorize the members of the Sailor Lantern Corps that you will find there. Any questions?" Major Tom 2009
  10. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Been reading The Scarlet Letter, have we? Major Tom 2009
  11. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... I'd say that that comes under the heading of "If you have to ask, you don't have enough"... Major Tom 2009
  12. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares The Three Stooges vs. The Curse of Nyukthalorep. Major Tom 2009 Woo-Woo-AIIIIEEEEEEE!!!
  13. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Oh, yes... the "Take a statement way out of context" gremlin is just waiting for statements like that. Major Tom 2009
  14. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... The shambler was quite right, you know. Vitus could've shown up instead. Major Tom 2009

  16. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I just got through with a David Weber reading marathon of sorts: Storm from the Shadows, Mission of Honor, In Fury Born, and Out of the Dark. The first two are the 18th and 19th books in the Honor Harrington series (I would have preferred to have started the series from the beginning; unfortunately, one can only read what the library has on hand), while In Fury Born is set in a different universe and (at least in the first half of the book) oriented more towards ground-based military action. Fans of Weber's space warfare stories won't be disappointed, as there is ship-to-ship combat not too different from what exists in the Honorverse. Out of the Dark is more of an alien invasion novel (set at some point in the near future -- how near isn't specified, but there are mentions of events taking place in 2012 that, from the point of view of the people remembering them, took place only a few years ago) with an interesting twist thrown into the mix. Speaking of interesting twists, there's also one in In Fury Born, but I don't want to spoil either book for those who haven't read them yet. Major Tom 2009
  17. Re: Guess the inspiration behind this superteam! No, that's not it either. I hadn't even heard of that story until now. I'll take one last guess, then I'll spill the name of the story. Major Tom 2009 My Stump-Fu is strong...
  18. Re: Guess the inspiration behind this superteam! Nope, not Baron Munchausen, sorry. Major Tom 2009
  19. Re: Guess the inspiration behind this superteam! OK, here's my contribution to the thread: Strider: this fellow has the power to cover vast distances simply by stretching his legs and walking. His arms can also stretch in length. Mass Man: has the ability to absorb matter of any kind into his body, becoming incredibly huge in the process. Visionary: has optical powers of such strength that he has to wear special eye- glasses to keep from destroying anything he looks at. A few things to keep in mind when trying to figure out who these guys are: one, they're not comic-book characters; and two, they don't come from TV either. What I will tell you is that these are characters from literature that were published years ago (just how long ago is something even I don't know). Major Tom 2009

  21. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... red_eagle123 and Susano: the two of you are joking, right? Major Tom 2009
  22. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Now, now... I'll grant you that Walker was just shy of being ubercompetent, but I wouldn't go so far as to put him in the same league as the Q. Major Tom 2009
  23. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... TACCF: Total And Complete Cluster-****. Does this satisfy your curiousity? Major Tom 2009
