Logan D. Hurricanes
Recently, I stumbled across a series of YouTube videos listing the best song intros, best bass intros, best vocal intros, best acoustic guitar intros, etc. Then I heard someone (unrelated) wondering what the best song ending is. This intrigued me because an astonishing number of songs don't have an ending they just fade out. (Really big in the 70s and 80s from my memory.) So, I got to thinking about it. And I want to ask others for ideas. My first choice is spoiled here. Let's Go Crazy, Prince What are your thoughts? Any genre.
Starlord
are we talking best outro, or just a some cool thing done right at the end of a song? For example, Hotel California and Metallica's One have pretty awesome outros. Pariah and slikmar
Logan D. Hurricanes
I'd say the final couple bars or so, but even that is flexible. I was counting Hotel California's ending as a fade, but it is a great outtro.
Ternaugh
"A Day in the Life" by the Beatles. The last chord holds for over 40 seconds, and inspired the Deep Note (THX). Most recent versions include the 15kHz tone and the run-out groove studio sounds. aylwin13, Logan D. Hurricanes and Tjack 2
death tribble
Helter Skelter. Specifically the Siouxsie and the Banshees version. It starts slow and builds getting faster and stops suddenly as Siouxsie sings the lyric, when I stop, I stop and that is it.

Pariah
Speaking of which, the end of the video for Brad Paisley's "Celebrity" is pretty amazing (compliments of William Shatner). Hermit and Logan D. Hurricanes
Pariah
Seriously, though, how about "Pull Me Under" by Dream Theater? Based on the subject material (Hamlet), the abrupt ending seems appropriate.

Pariah
"Just Kiss Me" by Harry Connick Jr. Specifically the ridiculously high note that the trumpet player holds for a quarter count longer than the rest of the band. Enforcer84
I'd also say I was always amused by Twisted Sister's "I'll Never Grow Up Now" as the end is like.. "Hey what are all these people doing in my room?" "Stop it! Get off my bed! You're crushing my dresser!" "Oh well...huh...Looks like fun!"
