ScottishFox
Watched the first episode last night. Lead character does a pretty good job acting in general. Her combat scenes are awful. She seems so un-athletic. Also, the special effects, even by CW standards were pretty hit or miss. The flying Batwoman scene was on par with South Park in terms of animation quality. I'll give it a few episodes for everyone to smooth out the rough parts.

I like to give shows three/four episodes to iron out the wrinkles and file down the rough edges too.

zslane
Has there ever been, in the history of Hollywood, a prisoner transfer that went smoothly? Sheesh. Thankfully it looks like next week she gets the red hair and bat logo.
ScottishFox
Not a fan of Batwoman's love interest on moral grounds. Don't try to wreck this lady's marriage to rekindle your military academy romance. Nothing heroic about trying to get someone to cheat on their spouse. I do miss the days when heroes held the moral high ground and super heroes held them to impractical, but laudable standards. I'd like to see Kate move on as well; she's got more important things to do now anyway. Having said that, Kate seems to be big on Being True to Oneself as a way of life, and probably thought that Mary was too. You'd think that Mary's willingness to hide and suppress her sexual orientation from the military was a big huge clue that she wasn't into standing up to society and its institutions if it makes her life complicated and difficult. Mary is not like Kate, and the sooner Kate accepts that, the sooner the show will have the narrative space to concentrate on what's really interesting about a Bat-anything character, which is the detective-vigilante thing. But this is the CW, and so romance is unfortunately going to be pushed hard one way or the other. Spence

Christopher R Taylor
Rotten Tomatoes has lost its value as a review site, and mostly its just a curiosity for how often the official reviews are grossly at odds with normal viewers'

OTH, if the low audience score is just the work of sad boys deliberating trying to tank the show because it is about a lesbian superhero, then the ratings will likely stay decent by CW standards and the show will carry on. Time will tell. Armory, slikmar, Cygnia and 3 others 5
zslane
Low ratings could also be due to mainstream audiences being disgruntled over the fact that WB/DC won't do a Batman series, and seeing Batwoman as an unacceptable substitute. A lot to that. Also it could be the extremely low "Superhero stuff" to "irrelevant family/romance sideline". So far there has been virtually no BATWOMAN in favor of mostly daytime soap opera scripts. It is still early so I am still hoping we get a superhero show. Right now it is all daddy issues and jilted lover. Christopher R Taylor
Yeah there are a lot of possibilities. It could be that people are just really disappointed with how the portrayal of Batwoman is being done right now, but hope it gets better (low reviews, but steady ratings) or it could be just people who are tired of Superhero TV shows not being what they hoped in comics. Bazza
That RT score is accurate as IMDB has the show rated as 3/10 from 10k people. Individual episodes are 4.8 & 5.2.
Pattern Ghost
So, people can't troll the IMDB ratings?
Bazza
They probably can, I don’t know. To be honest. However a quick look at the reviews suggest non-trolling.
Trencher
Thats the problem with ALL sci fi, horror and adventure shows now adays. All the crappy soap opera writers finagled themselves jobs in real shows when the soap opera genre died, and they took their crappy values and hack writing style with them. Lost and shows like it only had sci fi elements in it to drag people into seeing their trash drama show in flash back mode. It become really bad now. There are no imagination, interesting concepts are not developed because they writers can only write soap opera, and the writers constantly "fights" against the story. Christopher R Taylor
Its a lot easier to write soap opera side stories and subplots than actual gripping adventure. Plus, its a lot cheaper to have the protagonist in regular clothes hanging out talking rather than in costume out doing deeds of heroism. Nobody needs to train or practice fight choreography, nobody needs to be paid to come up with the fight choreography or do the stunts, etc. zslane, Lord Liaden, Trencher and 1 other
Lord Liaden
TBH I don't watch the CW super shows much anymore aside from the series crossover events. That's when they seem to loosen the purse strings enough to give us actual superheroic action, against the kind of larger-than-life menaces superheroes were designed to fight. The soap opera and jokes are still there, but at least they don't drown out everything else. And with all the characters to balance no one of them has time to wallow in existential angst.
