Tag365
I wonder what the program is like. It costs a lot of money so I want to hear your opinions on it. I don't feel like buying this program anyways, but I want to see what you think of it.
Greywind
It is reasonably priced and it can be a great help, if you already know how to build characters. Ninja-Bear and Vanguard
Beast
I love it it does all the math there are lots of formats you can download to suit how you want your character sheet to look for free go to the down loads area of this forum to look at others character sheets 25$ is not a bad price
Brian Stanfield
Once you learn to use the program (definitely read the documentation) and write up a few characters, you’ll never go back to paper and pencil. Seriously. It’s that useful! Vanguard and Beast
Spence
Hero Designer is a fantastic program for Character design. It supports both 6th Edition and 5th Edition. To call it a character design program is a misnomer. It is actual a design anything in Hero program as it has and supports vehicles, computers, headquarters etc. Plus you can customize to a very great degree if you have the skills. There are a LOT of export templates available and the documentation gives people the information to write or modify export templates. All in all, it is a very good program and at $25 it is actually cheap for what you get. Not to mention all of the pre-built data packages you can buy as addon's. As a GM it made building up NPC's and such much easier.
Ninja-Bear
Don’t forget you do have to download Java (which is free) to use Hero Designer. (I was handy for me cause I also use Solaris Skunk Werks for Battletech). I find it useful and I’m a cheapwad and I find $25 reasonable. I didn't realize you had to specifically download it separately. Every machine I have purchased after the 95'ish has worked right out of the gate, though I have needed updates. See, us old peeps learn something new every day...
Ninja-Bear
Maybe it’s what you bought. My newest is a Walmart special so nothing really comes with it. 😁

It was about then that I realized that I was actually spending more than I needed to. I don't use mine for video games or video editing or anything that requires massive processing power. Documents, spreadsheets etc.

You probably already know this, but I want to be sure you understand this is an aid for the pencil-and-paper role-playing game Champions (aka the Hero System). I'd hate for you to spend money on what you thought was a computer RPG or a mod for the Champions Online MMO. That said, it's a very useful program for character creation. I highly recommend it if you do play. Spence and Vanguard

Ninja-Bear
Spence I haven’t check the downloads section in awhile so it may have changed but iirc 6th didn’t have a vehicle or base export format. I could be wrong though.
bluesguy
Hero Designer is used to create characters that meet the rules as outlined for both the 5e and 6e versions of the Hero Games Rulesets. You can build Superheroes and more normal heroes (fantasy characters, space travelers, etc). You have to know how to build a character, which you get from the books. HD handles rules checking and does all the math for you.
Asperion
Is there a version that will allow one to create AIs, vehicles, or anything other than characters?

Hero Designer will do all that. The one thing that might take a bit of doing is finding an export template that suits you. If you know HTML coding, you can make your own. If you don't, you can find a lot of them in the download section plus there are members of the community that, if you asked nicely, could probably make you one. JCR
Two thumbs up especially if you are new to the game because it does all the math for you. I like that it even tells you in some instances when you are doing something that would normally be breaking the rules when creating something. After I got the program I have never bothered to use pen and paper to create characters or NPC's anymore. I even got a table to carry around my book(s) and program to game nite instead of having to lug around a collection of physical books (which is still fun, but too much work). My lack of skills has made my attempts at building my own export templates unsuccessful, so I had to have downloaded them from somewhere if they were not with the base load.
