Iuz the Evil
Halftime 20-14, good guys. Game so far is about what I expected, with the exception of OU struggling more on 3rd down than usual and more Texas penalties than usual. Pariah
Utah has looked good competent in one of the last eight quarters. Last night's game against Washington? Woof.
Pariah
It's not entirely inconceivable that Fresno State gets into a major bowl game. If Memphis beats UCF and Fresno beats Boise, they'll probably get the G5 invite.

Ehhhhhh......only if UCF looks particularly bad on offense and the committee believes the loss of their QB is that large a factor. UCF is still #8, and Fresno State's only #25. Boise State's only 22, so a Fresno State win is a plus but not a huge one, at least in terms of a New Year's Day slot. Boise State might be in a mildly better spot if they win, but for either one, I think it comes down to the committee saying that the loss of the QB for UCF severely down-values that team. Which could be the case. Oh goodie!!!! NO BLINDEYES!!!! BYE-BYE!!! Go WIldcats!!!!!
Iuz the Evil
After all those Texas comments about Kyler Murray being too short That was a really good game though. Damn, couldn't believe my eyes when there was a safety. Was that defense? I can't remember.
unclevlad
OY!!! That safety made me go YEEEP!!! Not the Clowney hit from his bowl game but OUCH!!!!! Smart kid, too. Lifted his head, brought his arms forward, avoided the penalty that could've happened all too easily.
Starlord
Well, that was a great performance by Oklahoma and probably does it for the Buckeyes. Even if they crush Northwestern, I'll admit they shouldn't be allowed to jump over the Sooners.
unclevlad
HOLY *#$@. UCF game. They're talking about Milton's treatment. 3 operations *so far*...apparently now the blood flow in his leg is back to where it should be. Yes, it did cause some nerve damage but hopefully not much, and that shouldn't be getting worse. Still faces reconstructive knee surgery in 4-6 weeks, and it's still not clear if he'll be able to play again. GAH!!! I was really afraid that the bend way up by the knee was Very Bad Juju..... unclevlad
Nice gut check performance by UCF after an unexpected, mistake-riddled first half.

As it should be. 4th consecutive conference title, which is nice. They can put it on the pile with the others (last I checked OU had more Big XII titles than not just any other school, but all other schools, in football: 12 of 22). Now we see what that translates to in the post season.
unclevlad
Yes, well, Iuz, send your thank-you card to Kirby Smart. Sheesh. Tie game, about 4 minutes left (?), 4th and 11 at midfield. Georgia tries a fake punt...in a textbook situation where the defense is in punt-safe. They're gonna let it go. Play does nothing. Bama gets the ball back, Hurts smartly moves Bama down for the go-ahead with about a minute left. Georgia got into position for 2 shots, but....not to be. So barring Clemson laying a major egg, looks like the playoffs are set. Bama/Sooners, Clemson/ND. How dull. Georgia winning would've made for a field day for predicting...both who's in and in what slots.
Iuz the Evil
Yeah, Georgia really gave that one away at the end. Thought they had it locked down.

Alabama was already in, no matter what (unless they pulled a Wisconsin and lost by 50, and probably even then)

Iuz the Evil
Well, Oklahoma has a slightly better offense than Alabama at least. And a much worse defense. It's a tough match up, but I've heard that before about Alabama vs OU. We will see.

Of course given that their QB got dinged up a little, Alabama will remember to lose a game early from now on. No need to take a risk in a meaningless SEC championship game, when you will make the playoffs anyway.
Badger
Watching Sportcenter (solely because I am not ready to go to bed yet) They think the 4th team should be...….Georgia *sigh* Then, why even play the bleepity bleeping bleep SEC championship game? Damnit! Why not save time, every year and let the 2 division winners in the SEC take 2 spots, and if one of those is not Alabama, make them the 3rd. And flip a damn coin for the final 1-2 spots. Iuz the Evil
ESPN has a lot of money invested in the $EC. Need to protect the investment. Network affiliation has a big impact on narrative. So, OU-Bama/Clemson-ND. It's official. I'd really enjoy an OU path to their 8th natty (we only count AP/BCS/CFP) that involved beating any 2 of those teams. Guess we will see if they can get much, much better on defense over the next month. The offense is fine, don't change a thing (oops, Marquis Brown just broke his foot). Bama favored by 14. Clemson by 11. Early betting is open. Stranger things have happened.
Starlord
Urban Meyer retiring after rose bowl As a Ohio State alum, I hope he goes away quietly at this press conference today. He should have been fired for his behavior and hopefully he will not try to fire up the Neanderthal fans that feel he has been wronged.
