Blue
"Are we too hard" on him. I can't speak for "us". Frankly, I hated Wesley Crusher and wanted to hate Wheaton himself, but he's fine. I'm not someone who follows his twitter account or anything, so maybe there are aspects I haven't seen. Trencher

Ternaugh
The biggest problem is that Wesley Crusher is a very thinly veiled Mary Sue character created by Eugene Wesley Roddenberry. Cygnia and Trencher
death tribble
I thought Roddenberry's Mary Sue character was James Tiberius Kirk. Bazza
Christopher R Taylor
Quote The character of Wesley Crusher was a large part of why the first two seasons of TNG are unwatchable. Oh, there's a host of reasons, he's just one among many problems.
clnicholsusa
I'm not a great fan of Wil Wheaton's thespian outings, but I have to admit on the basis of time-to-retch I can stand three to four Wesley Crushers longer than one Mrs. Fletcher. He was bad guy on an episode of Criminal Minds, he met his end by being on the wrong end of a semi. Note: My mother watches Criminal Minds and Big Bang Theory so.. Anaximander
I have a generally low opinion of most celebrities, and Wil Wheaton seems okay relative to most. As far as his character on Star Trek, he showed up and did his job. The fact that many fans hate his character isn't his fault. As far as the character, there is a precedent for having a kid genius character in science fiction stories. The writers could have written his character better. For that matter, it seems that the first two or three seasons were just riding on the Star Trek name rather than any strong storytelling, and most of the characters could have been written better. Hermit
Got nothing against Wheaton, though I am amused by the memes he and his characters created. Wesley was more interesting in episodes where he screwed up a little than where he was perfect, but mediocre acting aside, the scripts often did him no favors. And I say that as someone who LIKED TNG for the most part
Cassandra
Maybe I'm just disappoint on how bad the first two seasons of TNG were. Of course they didn't have to have him such a whiny brat you wanted Worf to through him out an air lock.

Yes, but Jonathan and Jennifer Hart's hobby was murder. The first season intro said so.
