Pariah
I saw a thing today about pet peeves teachers have. Here's my biggest one: That teacher who responds to a school-wide (or even district-wide) e-mail by clicking Reply All and typing "Sounds great!" Rails
^^^ I don't know about that . . . I know multiple kids that managed to graduate without actually being educated. In their cases, resistance was not futile--attempting to educate them was.
Pariah
To misquote Tom Lehrer: "Education is like a sewer: what you get out of it depends on what you put into it." GIGO and all that. For some students, all they want to get out of school is, well, to get out of school. They almost always manage to do exactly that, one way or another. Pariah
One of my fellow teachers, the one with whom I worked most closely last year, showed up today without the beard he's been wearing for the past 20 years. I hardly recognized him. I'm like, "I'm sorry, but who the frell are you?"

I took pictures to remind me to never do it again. Edited August 6 by Ternaugh Use your articles and prepositions! Clonus
Middle school bans all-black clothing, citing mental health concerns (kkco11news.com) Students can't dress in all black because if they do people might see an indication that they aren't happy. What's next. Mandatory smiling? I worked in a school once where neither students nor teachers were allowed to wear the same color shirt and pants because of ties to gang membership. I didn't know that until a 7th grader called me out for wearing a black polo shirt with my black slacks.
