Re: A Thread for Random Musings

In moments of madness over the past week, I set up a thing that probably makes sense to only the most rabid of gun-bunnies.

How to score your firearm to fit your needs.

Gun Evaluation Program.

There are several categories of scoring.

Length: shorter is better/more concealable. Remove factor if it doesn't matter to you.

Barrel: Longer barrels mean more velocity and accuracy

Caliber: It's the fight in the bullet, not the bullet in the fight.

Capacity: The longer you can keep shooting, the better, but less capacity is balanced by superior concealability

Safety: Does it have an off switch, and just how easy is it to reach. Can be altered for point and shoot preferences.

Trigger: How easy is it to get that shot off?

Grip: For many people, slimmer is better. Can be altered for LARGE hands too.

Length:

Formula = A 6 inch long handgun is a perfect 10 (based on the Chief's Special and PPK, best concealed guns in existence). Each half inch subtracts 1 point from the total score.

Barrel length:

Formula = A six inch barrel is a perfect 10 (based on best performance in powerful handguns). Longer barrels add 1 point per inch (which also applies to rifles, meaning this shows that rifles just have more of everything). In descending scale, starting at 5 inches, each quarter inch subtracts 1 point. 5 inches is 9 points, 4 inches is 5 points, and so on, stopping at 1 for 3 inches. No negatives allowed.

Caliber:

Formula = based off Marshall, Ayoob and Farnham independant studies.

10's = .357 SIG, .357 Magnum, .45 ACP, .45 Long Colt, .44 Special, .41 Magnum, 10mm

9 = .40 S&W, .38 Super, .38 ACP, .41 AE, 10mm FBI load

8 = 9mm, .38 Special +P+

7 = .38 Special standard, 9mm Makarove

6 = .380 Auto, .32 Magnum

5 = .32 ACP, .22 Rimfire Magnum

4 = .25 ACP, .22 Long Rifle

Capacity:

Fomula = Capacity as is. More shots are better for all calibers.

Safety:

Formula - Most subjective of criteria. For me they are

10 = Frame mounted safety catch

9 = Slide mounted safety catch

8 = Integral safety mechanism, "no off switch"

For the point and shoot crowd, it could be: 10= Integral, 9= Frame, 8= Slide. Long thumbed people could place Slide safeties as the best.

Trigger:

Formula =

10 = Single action

9 = Light DAO (Glock)

8 = Heavy DAO (revolver)

7 = DA/SA (Beretta, Walther, et al.)

Grip:

Formula =

10 = Single stack magazine + polymer, integral gripframe

9 = Single stack magazine + standard single-stack gripframe

8 = Double-stack magazine + polymer, integral gripframe (high capacity)

7 = Double-stack magazine + standard, double-stack gripframe (high capacity)

10 = K- or L- frame revolver (.38 .357 size)

9 = N- frame revolver (.44 size)

8 = custom-gripped J-frame revolver (bigger than tiny, easier to hold)

7 = unmodified J- frame revolver (tiny .32 size)

However, beyond all the number crunches... what matters is how well you do with it. Revolver people might like Heavy DAO more than Single Action. Adjust to fit YOUR needs and your beliefs in caliber. This just works for my opinions.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

Picked up on Kim Du Toit's blog...

A couple of Readers sent me this link, describing the antics of a GFW Mommie in New Jersey:

BOONTON—The mother of a fifth-grader at John Hill School said she will not return a book about firearms that her son checked out of the school library because she feels it is inappropriate and possibly dangerous.

Robin Barroso said that two weeks ago her son, Kyle, brought home “Guns of the World: The Complete Collectors and Traders Guide,†a book she said includes information on how much various firearms cost, what kind of ammunition is used, their range of firing, and also information on machetes.

The book, which she said was published by Petersen Publishing, was copyrighted in 1977.

“It is definitely not meant for children,†Barroso said. “With everything going on in the world this is the last thing my 10-year-old needs to look up.â€

Barroso said she first called the school district office, which referred her to the school, and, she said, she was eventually referred to the school librarian. Because of schedule conflicts with her job, Barroso and librarian Laurie Maggio-Huber were unable to speak with each other.

“I told the school to charge me for it, it’s not going back to the library,†Barroso said.

If I were the library, I’d charge her for $1,000 for destroying library property, and have theft charges brought against her. Let’s test those GFW principles against cash and a felony conviction, shall we?

Of course, she could just have registered a complaint about the book—ie. doing her protest the right way—but clearly this hysterical twerp doesn’t think that a book about eeeevil guns belongs under the mission of a public library to disseminate information.

Cowering bitch.

When did this thread become the posting place of gun-loons and their masturbatory firearm fantasies?

Oh, and hey... finally hit 8000.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

:whistle:

words of Col. Jeff Cooper, one of the last of the Real Men: “to ride, shoot straight, and speak the truth.â€

In every sense of the word. We know what the word “is†means.

Because that’s all that being a Real Man involves. You don’t have to become a fucking cartoon male, either: I’m not going back to stoning women for adultery like those Muslim assholes do, nor am I suggesting we support that perversion of being a Real Man, gangsta rap artists (those fucking pussies—they wouldn’t last thirty seconds against a couple of genuine tough guys that I know).

Speaking of rap music, do you want to know why more White boys buy that crap than Black boys do? You know why rape is such a problem on college campuses? Why binge drinking is a problem among college freshmen?

It’s a reaction: a reaction against being pussified. And I understand it, completely. Young males are aggressive, they do fight amongst themselves, they are destructive, and all this does happen for a purpose.

Because only the strong men propagate.

And women know it. You want to know why I know this to be true? Because powerful men still attract women. Women, even liberal women, swooned over George Bush in a naval aviator’s uniform. Donald Trump still gets access to some of the most beautiful pussy available, despite looking like a medieval gargoyle. Donald Rumsfeld, if he wanted to, could **** 90% of all women over 50 if he wanted to, and a goodly portion of younger ones too.

And he won’t. Because Rummy’s been married to the same woman for fifty years, and he wouldn’t toss that away for a quickie. He’s a Real Man. No wonder the Euros hate and fear him.

We’d better get more like him, we’d better become more like him, because if we don’t, men will become a footnote to history.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

Love from John Ray.

That power only, not principles, is what matters to Leftist movers and shakers is perfectly shown by the 2004 Kerry campaign. They put up a man whose policies seemed to be 99% the same as George Bush's even though the Left have previously disagreed violently with those policies. "Whatever it takes" is their rule.

Leftist ideologues are phonies. For most of them all that they want is to sound good. They don't care about doing good. That's why they do so much harm. They don't really care what the results of their policies are as long as they are seen as having good intentions and can con "the masses" into giving them power.

The Big Lie of the late 20th century was that Nazism was Rightist. It was in fact typical of the Leftism of its day. It was only to the Right of Stalin's Communism. The very word "Nazi" is a German abbreviation for "National Socialist"

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

Some thoughts.

BIGOTRY -- THE POLITICALLY CORRECT WAY

By Doug Hagin

There has always been bigotry, and sadly there always will be bigotry. Call it the ugly side of human nature, or the worst angels of our race, but some of us will always be consumed with hatred and intolerance for those who are different. Bigotry is a mental disorder if you ask me, a form of delusion where one person can not accept that someone else looks, talks, dresses, or prays differently than they do. It is truly pathetic to watch or listen to a bigot spewing their rank stupidity and generally making a public nuisances of themselves.

Perhaps the most disturbing bigotry on display in today's world is coming form a rather odd place. It is very strange indeed to see and hear the bigotry spewed by the political correctors of the world. These people have long cloaked themselves in the garb of social justice and equality, yet it is they who have become the bigots and the haters of today's society. Their hatred comes not so much from gender or race, but from ideological differences. Anyone is very welcome to look different from the politically correct, but watch out if anyone dares think of having a different opinion.

Consider please some recent examples of how obsessed the politically correct are to eradicate anyone who thinks differently than they do. Make no mistake, the goal of this group of bigots is not to debate or disagree honorably. Instead their goal is to stamp out anyone who thinks it OK to have a diverse ideology.

At a mall in South Florida the upcoming Easter holiday is being erased by the politically bigoted. No store can mention the word Easter. Oh there is a bunny there to take pictures with the kids, and an egg hunt, but the word Easter is forbidden. So much for respecting diversity of religion. The only religion the politically correct want to hear is their beloved secular humanism.

In Norway, the Prime Minister is angry at IKEA, a furniture manufacturer, because their instruction manuals show only men assembling furniture. The manuals are sexist and discriminatory according to Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik. Ah but there is a kink in the armor of the politically correct here my friends. Seems IKEA has opted not to show women in their manuals lest they offend Muslims. Quite the quandary these mental midgets have isn't it? Whom shall they dare to offend?

In Arkansas managers of a charity-run senior citizens center have been forced to ban any of these folks from saying grace before meals. It seems some narrow-minded busy-body threatened to sue if the prayers were allowed to continue. Once more only secular humanism is acceptable to these bigots. So much for their claim of loving religious freedom.

In Texas advocates of breast feeding are asking the state legislature to forbid baby formula manufacturers from giving out free samples to new mothers. So I suppose they are now to be the sole voice in how parents should feed their babies? How self-consumed these people are, and they are only too happy to enact laws dictating how others should raise their children.

At Bowdoin College in Maine the politically correct bigots are in high gear. They are outraged that a Black Conservative was invited to speak recently. The speaker Vernon Robinson, is not really a Black guy according to the small minded critics. He is instead an Uncle Tom who has no right to speak on campus.

Now this might seem the most insidious case of mental dysfunction but wait there is another punch line. The critics of Robinson are also accusing the student Republicans who invited Robinson of displaying a lack of openness by asking him to speak. Well sure, they forgot to check with the Bowdoin bigots before asking Robinson to speak. How dare they think for themselves!

At Harvard actress Jada Pinkett Smith recently ran afoul of the politically correct while giving a speech during the Cultural Rhythms show. What was the actress's sin? Why she talked about her marriage to actor Will Smith and apparently did not talk about Gay or lesbian relations. How dare this insensitive actress be heterosexual? And even worse she talked about it in public!

Students at Middle Tennessee State have decided that the word "lady" is sexist and derogatory to the universities women's athletic teams. "When we use the word 'lady,' today at least, we recognize it as sort of a sexist remark," said Ryan Husak, a member of Solidarity. "It is used to sort of suggest secondary status." Really? I just thought it was good manners. How nice of these know-it-alls to educate our heathen minds.

In Brooksville, Florida a City-Councilman has deemed the city logo offensive and racist because there are, hold your breath now, two Confederate soldiers carrying a Confederate flag on it. Once more history is to be erased and Southerners are to be ashamed of their ancestors and Southern heritage is to sacrificed on the altar of political correctness.

So understand this if you talk differently, think differently, dare to worship any religion but secular humanism, vote Republican, own a gun, are Southern, a White male, a Conservative Black or woman, call women ladies, mention that you are attracted to the opposite sex, drive an SUV, eat meat, smoke, do not worship the United Nations, or support America defending herself, you are now targeted.

There is no place here for you. You are not to be tolerated or included and your sensitivities matter not. Don't like it? Tough you should have thought more carefully before deciding to think for yourself.

I'm not a sheep.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

Spent a lot of time today going thru stuff that hadn't made it out for the sale yesterday.

Lots of stuff still to go thru. I'm starting to look forward to getting rid of a lot of it. One of my comic series, I didn't want to give up yesterday. I read thru it today, so Whisper can be dropped off with zornwil later.

I suppose Skaramine must be getting something out of it. All I'm getting is bored. Though the irony of having a convenience store clerk try to insult my having an actual paying job was entertaining... for a moment. Then it just got boring again.
