DocMan
Re: A Thread for Random Musings Lost in the mists of time... a little more than 100 pages ago... in the forgotten land called page 187... It was an age called September 7th, 2004! Owl wife of SS encouraged dyslexics to untie! Skaramine orders one for the road. Tim wants to organize for anarchy. Skaramine notes that clown tastes funny. Ben Seeman likes being struck by Mightybec. Scary Drifter interrupts Skaramine's stand up routine to give a guitar to an old friend who has seen him through the hard times. Doc P.S. I'm not dead. Guest Skaramine
Re: A Thread for Random Musings [Professor Farnsworth Mode On] GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE! [Professor Farnsworth Mode Off] Marvel held one of its periodic presentations for investors yesterday as part of a Bear Stearns conference, and, perhaps mindful of the black eye they got when Elektra tanked, Peter Cuneo and Avi Arad made several announcements. > > Most important from the comic book standpoint, Cuneo revealed that Marvel comics will be going back into 7-11s. "Marvel will be in 6000 7-11 convenience stores," he announced. "This doubles the number of outlets for our comics." > > "We wanted to go back to the times when kids could ride a bike or walk to a 7-11 and get a comic. We've developed a product for this market," added Arad. > > Cuneo characterized the deal as "big and impactful" and a way to get Marvel in front of a whole new (or "old", if you look at it that way) audience. > > While the scope and nature of this deal remains to be seen, it would be an astonishing example of things coming full circle. 20 years ago, the idea of comics being sold in comics shops was revolutionary. Now the idea of comics being in a 7-11 is groundbreaking. > > But that's not all. Marvel comics will also be going into 300 Barnes and Noble bookstores. They did a 50 store test that was very successful. "More and more the heart of Marvel is comic books," said Cuneo. >

Vanguard00
Re: A Thread for Random Musings About a month ago I was told that I had done my job so well over the last two years that the position I held probably wouldn't be needed after this year. Toward that end we set up a schedule for some cross-training so that I could move to a different department at that time. A position has just been added to that very same department. I have neither the appropriate level of skill/experience (yet), nor have I completed all the tasks assigned to my current position. In short, this came about six months earlier than I was led to believe. Hard on the heels of that announcement, however, was the boss letting me know that some of my projects will be pushed back to help with a variety of contract-related assignments that have just come up. The time set aside to learn new things so that I don't lose my job just got shorter because I'm the go-to guy for technical writing and similar assignments. So I now no longer have as much time to cross-train, nor a position for which to train. Oh, I was also told that if the new contract goes as planned--a big If, mind you--then my job might not go away at all, but rather expand, possibly requiring me to train a part-time assistant. In short, I have no idea what my future holds at this point. If nothing else, I bump a contractor out of his job and go back to being a junior-grade sysop/admin. It's kind of an odd position for me to be in, to not really know what my future holds, knowing that a great deal rides on what comes next, but not really giving a damn. It's kinda cool.
