Bazza
Re: A Thread for Random Musings Not all religions are base on faith, and superstition. There is a religion that exists that is almost totally forgotten by The West. This religion has with truth, wisdom, and knowledge as its ideals. Its language (well one of them) is maths, geometry and measurement. It is scientific and rational in its methodology. It is also is in parts irrational. It is Eternal and perennial. Adherents have built some of the most world famous structures and buildings that last centuries and millennia. I state this as a reminder that it exists. And will exist. Thank you for reading. Old Man
Re: A Thread for Random Musings She would have had long, wavy black hair. She would have needed braces, but her smile would still have lit up the room and the hearts of everyone in it. She would have been quick and sharp as a rapier, confident and outgoing. She would have liked animals. She would have been fearless. She would have known what to do. She would never have gotten involved with the wrong kind of guy. She would have hated high heels but looked beautiful in them. She would have been kind and forgiving and easygoing. She would have taught us so much and made us so much more than we are. She would have been the fulfillment of hope. She would have been happy, and she would have made the world a happier place. I am Icarus. lemming
Re: A Thread for Random Musings Aug 30 I headed up to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. Great trip, and a good time of year. Photos of the trip: On the way back, we also stopped at Flaming Gorge Park and during lunch I found out a good friend of mine, also in Animal Rescue passed away that morning from Ovarian Cancer. She's been fighting it for years. That evening (Tuesday), when we were setting up camp at Flaming Gorge, I spotted a kitten. I talked to the Camp Host and found out she'd been left behind near the beginning of summer. Which means she'd been avoiding the Great Horned Owl, Coyotes, and other problems since. I didn't have the tools to catch her, so after I got back to Kanab, and picked up my kit, I drove back Friday to get her. I was successful and she's now hanging out in our bathroom. She's already eating baby food off our fingers, so I have good expectations on socialising her. Her name is Cathy, named for my friend. Cancer
Re: A Thread for Random Musings I am giving up on the "What Are You Listening To Now" thread because of the semi-infinite page load time induced by all the g*****n video links. Cancer
Re: A Thread for Random Musings Continuing in the test-of-patience theme, it takes a remarkably long time for a page-thrashing python process that's been keyboard interrupted (the control-C in its window) to free up all the 3.5 GB of real memory it's been clutching desperately in its vain attempts to grow large enough collections. Close to half an hour, this most recent one.
death tribble
Re: A Thread for Random Musings Going out to get the paper I see a pretty major water leak on the hill. Coming back I see a water worker at the top of the hill and ask 'has anyone..' and pointed down the hill. 'Yes' says he and they are trying to correct it. So I did not need to make a call myself. tkdguy
Re: A Thread for Random Musings It was Saturday morning in San Francisco. A thick layer of fog covered the city, as it usually did in the early morning. I'd rather have stayed home, but I had business to finish, so I found myself pounding my feet against the pavement. The wind was cold, and it made me glad I had my trenchcoat and fedora to keep me warm. The road took me to one of the ritzy parts of town. Tudor-style homes predominated, although quite a few had a more Mediterranean flavor. Shady trees and multi-colored flowers covered the lawns. It's as if I stepped into one of those story books I used to read as a kid. Of course, I'm sure the people who stay here don't exactly lead fairy-tale lives. But that's none of my business, and no one is paying me to find out anyway. I try to keep a low profile in places like this, as some folks get suspicious of scruffy-looking outsiders. Having forgotten to shave, I looked even scruffier than normal. But I knew these streets; I've walked them countless times already, so I know which places to avoid, and where it's okay to pass through, as long as you don't snoop around too conspicuously. It was unusually busy for a Saturday morning. The sidewalks were mostly empty, but a lot of automobiles drove past me. I heard the propeller of an aeroplane overhead, but the fog hid it from view. I passed a few people, but most of them didn't want to stop and say hello. Never mind; I was almost at my destination, and it was time to get to work. SatinKitty
Re: A Thread for Random Musings I just searched everywhere for my small jar of Vaseline. It was right in front of my face on the desk. Time to de-junk. It's crazy to have so much stuff you don't know where it all is. Having something useful is useless when you cannot find it. James Gillen
Re: A Thread for Random Musings So today I applied at a life insurance company and they said that licensing is normally $900 in this state but they can cover everything through the office for $79. And I thought to myself, "If I had $79 in pocket change, I wouldn't be looking for a better job, would I??" JG
