Vondy
Re: A Thread for Random Musings On importing ritual objects: don't. We keep running into these problems. This season is shofars (rams horns), which are used during the High Holidays. The ones made in Morroco use a synthetic binding agent rendering them unfit. The ones made in China are smeared with pig's fat to make them shiny. The manufacturers are clueless. Besides: as ritual objects they should be made by a member of the faithful. Logan D. Hurricanes
Re: A Thread for Random Musings I have a bottle of vodka. Now, for most people this would not be a notable event. I don't drink, though, and I detest vodka. (Now, when I say I don't drink I mean that I drink very rarely; I have had maybe three beers this year.) I do, however, collect cool looking bottles. My apartment complex has a communal dumpster. As I took out my trash one day I saw a cool looking bottle just inside the door, a Grey Goose Vodka bottle, one which I always wanted. I grabbed it for my collection and tossed it in the back of my truck. Now that I'm packing up my bottle collection I find that not only is the bottle full, it is unopened. Somebody had placed a new bottle of vodka inside the door to the dumpster. Now I feel a small tinge of guilt thinking I accidentally intercepted someone's drop. Very small, though. Vondy
Re: A Thread for Random Musings I'm lowering my hero games profile and sanitizing my user control panel. My email is there if someone wants to make contact for some reason. I simply find I have an increasingly hard time relating as time passes. I feel I have little to contribute and nothing relevant to say about "issues." And I don't have 6E, which is where 90% of the gaming discussion is going. I'm not leaving. I'll lurk and comment occassionally. I just don't have anything worthwhile to add at this point. Be well.
teh bunneh
Re: A Thread for Random Musings For the past couple of weeks, I've been making my own breakfast. I'm buying plain organic yogurt and fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, bananas). Chop up 2 oz of fruit and mix it together with 6 oz of yogurt, along with a spoonful of vanilla extract. It's pretty good, and I control the amount of sugar (none except what god put in the fruit), HFCS (none), and other additives (none). Also, I get to use the strawberries I've been growing in my garden.
Enforcer84
Re: A Thread for Random Musings My computer hates me. Or rather it hates my video games, my OS, and/or my screen saver. It is a recent development. And I plan on wiping the damn thing and starting from factory settings and see where my problem was. Oh and swear a lot. Logan D. Hurricanes
Re: A Thread for Random Musings I don't understand the popularity of Legally Blonde. I remember seeing it with the wife and I thought it was cute, but not wonderful. Then came a sequel and now a Musical on Broadway, and it seems to be freaking everywhere. I just don't get it. Klytus
Re: A Thread for Random Musings All names have been changed to protect the innocent and guilty alike... The situation: A user from another office cannot get into our network. My e-mail to the VP of my department: I've had a few chats with [admin from That Other Office] trying to get into this laptop. They insist that no one changed the default admin account, but the default password isn't working. They also say that they manually assign IP addresses to the laptops for access to their network. Outside of [That Other Office] office, they need to use wireless. But, as you know, we need to install and configure [software package] to use our wireless, and I cannot install that on this laptop as this log-in account does NOT have administrator rights. In short, thanks to the way they set things up in [That Other Office], we have *no way* to get anyone from that office up and running in [our office]. My VP sent this to the VP of Security, and CC'ed me on it: Any ideas, [security Chief]? The VP of Security's brief, but appropriate, reply: None that I want to put in writing on corporate e-mail. Guest Worldmaker
Re: A Thread for Random Musings So I was watching Bill Maher's film Religulous, and its the usual stuff from Maher, who is a great skeptic when it comes to religion. He's polite, for the most part, yet utterly ruthless when it comes to questioning things that other people take on faith. So I'm beginning to think about what to have for lunch because, as I said, its Maher and I've heard it before, when suddenly he's doing a bit from the Holy Land Experience, an attraction here in Central Florida that happens to be a ten minute ride up the road from where I live (and boy howdy, I live in the middle of tourist central, even for living in the Orlando/Kissimmee, area). Now I can't get the idea of visiting this attraction out of my head, because I, too, want to experience the "glory" that is a singing, dancing, musical Jesus. Vondy
Re: A Thread for Random Musings This is weird. I've been out of the (professional) job market for five years. It took me two days to find a coffee-ringed copy of an old resume. Only now I'm supposed to "social network." Gah! Social networking makes me froward, suspicious, and twitchy. I like my anonymity. There's a whiff of popinjay marketing spin about it. It makes me grunt and glower. But according to the technies I know I just have to have a linked-in account. Hmmmmmm.....
