pinecone
Must have been before that...back in grade school I had a set of Rams stickers on my school folders, and they were yellow horns...that would be the 70's. Maybe its all the fault of that Peter Max fellow...?
Pariah
Chargers fail to draw a bigger crowd than L.A. Galaxy for their preseason debut Same stadium on consecutive nights, ~4500 fewer fans for the Chargers. Not good.
Michael Hopcroft
Chargers fail to draw a bigger crowd than L.A. Galaxy for their preseason debut Same stadium on consecutive nights, ~4500 fewer fans for the Chargers. Not good. And by all accounts the Galaxy, who with their money and management should be perennial powers in MLS, are having an off year on the pitch, while the Chargers have the talent to make at least a little bit of noise in the AFC West. Still, preseason games are not all that popular. Having to pay full ticket prices, plus full-rate parking and concessions, for an exhibition game where the only real suspense is whether one of the stars will get hurt -- that sticks in the craw of fans of stable franchises. You also have to ask who the Chargers fans are now. The San Diego fanbase is sure as heck not rooting for them now, and LA is getting used to having the Rams again, I can;t help but wonder why the Chargers didn't at least wait for the stadium to be finished (has construction even started?) before pulling up stakes. Makes me wonder what Oakland will be like for the Raiders until their stadium in Vegas is ready. Will the Black Hole implode on them? Pariah
It's important to remember that 'fans' is short for 'fanatics', and in no case is that more literally true than for the Raiders. They'll be fine.

Maybe its all the fault of that Peter Max fellow...? I'd have to go back and look, but I do have a couple of old preseason yearbooks of my dad's from the 1970s, and if memory serves it look like the horns changed from the 1971 one to the 1975 one. Burrito Boy
Don't worry, I'm sure they'll find a cure before it's too late. I appreciate you trying to reassure me but it's incurable. The Chargers themselves have tried curing me several times: going 1-15, letting go of Seau, letting go of Tomlinson, moving to L.A. Nothing has worked. I'm terminal. Burrito Boy
Nope, I cant have any sympathy for the Burrito, we cant help those that don't want to help themselves. I understand. I don't even have sympathy for myself. I'm scum. Let me be a lesson to you all that even loyalty--sweet, precious loyalty--can become a bad thing. Look on me not with pity but with the knowledge that you must never allow yourself to follow my example.

Badger
I would say a topic to avoid on a sports thread, but they are starting up the anthem protests again.
Pariah
In the wake of what happened in Charlottesville (and elsewhere), I expect that we'll see a lot of protests of various kinds this season. It'll be interesting to see what happens if/when Jerry Jones follows through with his threat to cut any player who doesn't stand for the national anthem. It'll be interesting to see what happens if/when Jerry Jones follows through with his threat to cut any player who doesn't stand for the national anthem. To 1) Maybe, though my patience has worn a bit thin on protests at the moment. So, I wont exactly be motivated to watch football till October (baseball season) for sure now To 2) I imagine it'll come down to quality of player when it happens, as per usual on these things Note: If one wanted to get "clever", you could go with "if they cant stand during the anthem then they are obviously too injured to play stand point". Not that that wouldn't be quite the asshattery, in its own right.
Old Man
To repeat, it's a stupid and divisive method of protest that actually distracts from the reason behind the protest.

Old Man
I'm thinking this discussion should be moved to the political thread, but yeah, any protest that might be perceived as disrespect for the flag will only be a distraction.
