Grailknight
It's the same. Let's hear your argument for it so we can agree or disagree.
Doc Democracy
An argument for strike to give me armour piercing? Well, the SFX of my attack is the generation of atom thick waves of force. When I hit with them it makes sense that they should slice through defences more easily than the clubs the other guys use...
Grailknight
And as a GM, I would deny this as it gives an advantage to your power's SFX above the SFX of others. Quite analogous to the argument being made in this thread tho.
Ninja-Bear
You can't advantage manoeuvres, can you? It is easy to build a power that is a better haymaker than the manoeuvre. That power would not need the balance of risks and rewards the manoeuvre has. As of UMA fifth, you can!
steriaca
As of UMA fifth, you can! But you can only buy advantages on marital arts maneuvers, not maneuvers everybody gets for free.
Mister E
But you can only buy advantages on marital arts maneuvers, not maneuvers everybody gets for free. Any maneuver can be broken down (using the UMA rules as an example) to allow it to be advantaged. Just do it.
Lucius
Is this weed related? .....okay, now I want to know what you mean by that? Lucius Alexander Losing a palindromedary in the tall grass
Doc Democracy
But you can only buy advantages on marital arts maneuvers, not maneuvers everybody gets for free. Anything you pay for, I am fine with, that is beside the point...
Ninja-Bear
Well naked advantages are kinda common now. So would a naked advantage on a free manuever be ok?
Doc Democracy
Hmm. I am not sure I would, though, I guess if the character was a martial artist type that had bought a suite of martial manoeuvres then I might accept them buying to amend basic manoeuvres, reflecting the fact that they are knowledgeable about fighting techniques. Beyond that it would take extra-ordinary persuasion. :-)
Doc Democracy
The best persuasion would be to show me that it would be, first, cool and, second, not unbalancing for other players.
Lucius
Is this weed related? You got lost in the tall grass stems. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary eats the stems down to the roots
Ninja-Bear
The best persuasion would be to show me that it would be, first, cool and, second, not unbalancing for other players. I might be missing something but I can't see how throwing indirect on haymaker can be unbalancing. You are paying for an ability plus extra END for a manuever which in my experience is hardly ever used and of those few times, the target has never been moved. Lucius
Why jump through hoops to pay points to change how a maneuver that gives you +4 Damage Classes works, when you can buy the Damage Classes as +xd6 with whatever Limitations you feel appropriate? edit: It's like trying to finagle a way to get a "Constant Dodge" when you could just buy +3 DCV, with or without Limitations. Lucius Alexander Jumping a palindromedary through hoops just for fun
Ninja-Bear
Lucius the answer to your question is this is Hero.system and we can! But your point is very valid.
