Pariah
* BLAM * Wow. You did exactly what I asked you to do. Which, in the context of this thread, constitutes failure. Well played.
Pariah
I've had one-line sql queries that took days to get right. Do your three lines of code work, at least? They did, finally. I still have no idea why the code I originally wrote never worked, though. Since this was my final project, and I was able to present it successfully, I suppose it doesn't matter now. Cancer
When I was learning C back in the early 1980s, it outraged me that "if x = y:" and "if x == y:" were both syntactically valid code snippets yet did grossly -- no, catastrophically -- different things. I swore that "feature" was implemented in the language purely to yank around the fortran programmers (of which I was one) trying to learn it. Pariah
I used to know some FORTRAN. A little Pascal and some Modula-2, as well.

Cancer
Well, you got me reminiscing nostalgically about computed GO TOs, which has to count as a fail at some level.

Logan D. Hurricanes
Well, you got me reminiscing nostalgically about computed GO TOs, which has to count as a fail at some level. We call that a Basic Fail. Basically. Pariah
Pariah
My first programming language was, of course, Basic. I got to be pretty good at it. When I graduated to other languages, I was shocked and dismayed that I could no longer rely on my trusty GOTO statements. I eventually got over it. I consoled myself by singing "We all live in a yellow subroutine...."
Logan D. Hurricanes
I still never learned beyond Basic, which is a complete fail for a supposed computer guy like me. I learned HTML, but nearly all of my knowledge on web coding is completely outdated and obsolete now. That's probably a good thing. I have plenty of other things to obsess over. Cancer
We call that a Basic Fail. Basically. No, it's a Fortran Fail. Don't commit the failure of mixing up computer languages. Or do; that's what this thread is for, sort of.
Logan D. Hurricanes
Fortran? That's not even word.

Pariah
Got an A in my Astrophysics/Programming class! (Yes, I am aware of the irony and/or inappropriateness of posting such news in this thread. I just figured it was a good way to wrap up all the programming talk and get back to failure in general.) Cancer

Cancer
Guess I'll have to change my policies again. Yes, the final exam is required. Skip it and you fail.
Pariah
I've had that happen in my classes sometimes too, especially with graduating seniors. "I've got a D- without the final exam? I'll take it."
