Pariah
On a winter's night, stars are cold and bright in the sky, The slumber of the earth is pure and deep From a distant wood, drifts the echo of a beast The old man stirs and wakens in the night He stands before his window gazing at the grave Forgotten dreams are flashing through his weary mind And though his life is empty, he pretends that she's still there With hunger in his soul, he yearns for life and love gone by, With memories his one and only joy All he has to give, he would give to bring back the life, And raise the one who lies beneath the snow He lights a lamp and looks at pictures of the past The faces of their youth still glow with new-found love, But the picture's faded, and time has stolen youth away With a spoken word that he thought he heard from her lips, He felt another presence in the room, He was filled with fear but filled with joy he arose And turned to face the image that he knew She stood before him and her hand reached out for his A peaceful light shone in her eyes She said she'd come to soothe him, and someday they'd be as one She began to fade and her image disappeared, So he was left alone to face the night, Never in his life, had he been so held in awe, As he faced the apparition of his wife He stood before the window gazing at the grave, And with a lightened heart he saw the first of dawn, He knew that she was waiting, that someday they'd be as one

Pariah
Well, my daddy left home when I was three And he didn't leave much to ma and me Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid But the meanest thing that he ever did Was before he left, he went and named me Sue Well, he must've thought that it was quite a joke And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk It seems I had to fight my whole life through Some gal would giggle and I'd get red And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head, I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named Sue Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean My fist got hard and my wits got keen I'd roam from town to town to hide my shame But I made a vow to the moon and stars That I'd search the honky-tonks and bars And kill that man who gave me that awful name Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July And I just hit town and my throat was dry I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew At an old saloon on a street of mud There at a table, dealing stud Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me Sue Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye He was big and bent and gray and old And I looked at him and my blood ran cold And I said, "My name is Sue, how do you do Now you're gonna die!" Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes And he went down, but to my surprise He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear But I busted a chair right across his teeth And we crashed through the wall and into the street Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer I tell ya, I've fought tougher men But I really can't remember when He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss He went for his gun and I pulled mine first He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile And he said, "Son, this world is rough And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along So I give ya that name and I said goodbye I knew you'd have to get tough or die And it's the name that helped to make you strong" He said, "Now you just fought one hell of a fight And I know you hate me, and you got the right To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do But ya ought to thank me, before I die For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye 'Cause I'm the [bLEEP] that named you Sue" Well what could I do? What could I do? I got all choked up and I threw down my gun And I called him my pa, and he called me his son And I came away with a different point of view And I think about him, now and then Every time I try and every time I win And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him.. Bill or George! Anything but Sue! I still hate that name! Burrito Boy and Cancer

Pariah
Mother, mother ocean, I have heard your call, Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall. You've seen it all, you've seen it all. Watch the men who rode you, Switch from sails to steam. And in your belly you hold the treasure That few have ever seen Most of them dreams, most of them dreams Yes, I am a pirate Two hundred years too late. The cannons don't thunder there's nothin' to plunder I'm an over forty victim of fate Arriving too late, arriving too late. I've done a bit of smugglin' I've run my share of grass. I made enough money to buy Miami, But I pissed it away so fast, Never meant to last, never meant to last. I have been drunk now for over two weeks, I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks, But I've got to stop wishin', Got to go fishin', I'm down to rock bottom again. Just a few friends, just a few friends. I go for younger women, lived with several a while And though I ran 'em away, they'd come back one day. And still could manage a smile It just takes awhile, just takes awhile. Mother, mother ocean, After all these years I've found My occupational hazard being My occupation's just not around. I feel like I've drowned, Gonna head uptown.

tkdguy
When I wake up early in the morning Lift my head, I'm still yawning When I'm in the middle of a dream Stay in bed, float up stream (Float up stream) Please, don't wake me, no, don't shake me Leave me where I am, I'm only sleeping Everybody seems to think I'm lazy I don't mind, I think they're crazy Running everywhere at such a speed Till they find there's no need (There's no need) Please, don't spoil my day, I'm miles away And after all I'm only sleeping Keeping an eye on the world going by my window Taking my time Lying there and staring at the ceiling Waiting for a sleepy feeling... Please, don't spoil my day, I'm miles away And after all I'm only sleeping Ooh yeah Keeping an eye on the world going by my window Taking my time When I wake up early in the morning Lift my head, I'm still yawning When I'm in the middle of a dream Stay in bed, float up stream (Float up stream) Please, don't wake me, no, don't shake me Leave me where I am, I'm only sleeping Hugh Neilson and Pariah
Cygnia
In the early morning rain with a dollar in my handWith an aching in my heart and my pockets full of sandNow, I'm a long way from home and I miss my loved ones soIn the early morning rain with no place to goOut on runway number nine a big 707's set to goBut, I'm stuck here in the grass where the cold wind blowsNow, the liquor tasted good and the women all were fastWell, there she goes, my friend, well she's going down at lastHear the mighty engines roar - see the silver bird on highShe's away and westward bound - far above the clouds she'll flyThere the morning rain don't fall and the sun always shinesShe'll be flying over my home in about three hours timeThis old airport's got me down - it's no earthly good to me'cause I'm stuck here on the ground as cold and drunk as I can beYou can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight trainSo, I'd best be on my way in the early morning rainYou can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight trainSo, I'd best be on my way in the early morning rain tkdguy
