Garrotte and Choke Hold

Steve

Question

A garrotte from the equipment guide does 3d6 NND with a STR Min of 5, and a Choke Hold maneuver does 2d6 NND.

If a martial arts style has a weapon element for Garrotte (like Lua), does the Choke Hold maneuver's damage simply add on to the garrotte's damage directly?

So a 15 STR character with Choke Hold and a garrotte: 3d6 NND (garrotte) + 1d6 NND (STR 15) + 2d6 NND (Choke Hold) = 6d6 NND?

If the Choke Hold maneuver hits, does that satisfy the garrote's limitations that it needs to target the head and follow a grab?

Choke Hold is built with the NND Dmg Element, which means it must also have the STR - Element at the “No STR” level, so that STR doesn’t add any damage. Nor is there any other rule for adding damage to NND Dmg-based Martial Maneuvers (other than Extra DCs). Therefore a garrote’s damage cannot add to Choke Hold. However, the GM could certainly permit this anyway if he felt it were appropriate for his campaign.

In light of that answer I think the second question is superfluous, but if there are aspects I’m overlooking that you still have questions about, please post a follow-up.
