An improved version of Supergirl's powers were restored to her by Mr. Mxyzptlk. I did not find an explanation for these superior powers disappearing two issues later. "Now that she's superior to me, maybe our relationship should be reversed! Perhaps I should become her assistant!" exclaimed Superman. In the Supergirl stand alone comic based on the Superman Animated Series she was immune to kryptonite because she was from Argo. The effects of Kryptonite vary considerably depending on the writer and the medium. While it's deadly it either removed her powers, or just makes them harder to use. Her powers and her superhuman STR and SPD do not work during red solar radiation exposure. She has higher then normal STR even in red solar radiation because Krypton has higher gravity so she's stronger and tougher on Earth.
