Corrupting influences in 6E?

In the settings of "Midnight" and "Legends of the Five Rings" are lands where the very air, soil and water are filled with corruption, and there are entities that can corrupt living beings as well.

How would you write up such a corrupting power in 6E? How could you defend against it?

Re: Corrupting influences in 6E?

The question is, what exactly does a corrupted individual/creature/thing mean? What is the in-game effect of a corrupted "object"?

Here are some samples;

• Warp the Mind: Drain PRE 1d6, Area Of Effect Nonselective (1m Radius; +1/4), Persistent (+1/4), Personal Immunity (+1/4), Constant (+1/2), Cumulative (+1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Delayed Return Rate (points return at the rate of 5 per Hour; +1 3/4) (50 Active Points); No Range (-1/2), Always On (-1/2), Linked (Warping the Environment; Lesser Power can only be used when character uses greater Power at full value; Greater Power is Constant or in use most or all of the time; -1/2)

• Warping Reality: Severe Transform 1d6 (Anything into a warped, twisted, mangled version of itself, Another Transform Ritual), Area Of Effect Nonselective (1m Radius; +1/4), Personal Immunity (+1/4), Persistent (+1/4), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Constant (+1/2) (41 Active Points); No Range (-1/2), Always On (-1/2)

• Warping the Environment: Change Environment (-1 to Hearing Group PER Rolls, -1 to Smell/Taste Group PER Rolls, -1 to Sight Group PER Rolls, -1 to Touch Group PER Rolls, +1 Points of Damage, -1 DEX Roll and all Skill Rolls based on DEX, -1 STR Roll and all Skill Rolls based on STR, -1m of any mode of Movement, Long-Lasting 1 Hour), Persistent (+1/4), Personal Immunity (+1/4), Area Of Effect Nonselective (1m Radius; +1/4), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (81 Active Points); No Range (-1/2), Always On (-1/2)

Basically, seems like a Transform (you get all evil and twisted and crap), though in most of those settings once you're fully Transformed you're as good as dead, so you go to NPC-ville. Obviously, you defend against it with Power Defense (in L5R, you'd have protective spells or Jade that provides it).

I agree with CrosshairCollie; this should be built as a transform. It could either be made inherent to an area, or, if a character corrupts the area with magic, give them the transform with MegaArea, Persistent, and 0 END.

You could also use an automatic Transform side effect on 'evil spells' that corrupt the user if he uses them, though I tend to think that tends to make it happen too quickly.

It depends on what spells are "evil enough" to corrupt the caster. Also, you could just get 1/2d6 or 1 point of Transform as the side effect. A moderately high threshold would slow down the transformation pretty effectively.

How would you heal from corruptive powers? If it could be healed by magic or by rest in clean places' date=' but not fully healed and always leaving a lingering taint, how could that be shown?[/quote']

Presumably, anything that lets you heal Transform body would do it. The only way I can think of to do the lingering taint might be to require a PC to take a Distinctive Feature ('aura of taint', detectable with unusual/magic senses), or a Phys Lim (always has (X) Body against him for corruption Transforms) if he gets too many Transform points built up.
