hawkfu
Hi. I wanted to create a villain organization, like a Viper or Hydra, with a spider theme. I am having a heck of a time coming up with a name - any ideas? Thanks! Hawkfu

I am having a heck of a time coming up with a name - any ideas? Thanks! Hawkfu Well, an organization i.e. a "network" with a spider theme sounds like it's begging for an allusion to webs, webwork, or webbing. In fact, "The Web" might be the best possible organization name; it includes the meaning of a snare or trap, and of interconnections - all the interwoven plots they are no doubt working. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary suggests: COB (Criminal Operations Business), Crimeweavers, Silken Snare, SPINNER...
wcw43921
Re: Help - Criminal Organization The Tarantula Syndicate has a nice, ominous ring to it. Just now tried to turn out an acronym for SPIDER, but no luck. Harlan Ellison wrote a story around the premise--Santa Claus Vs. S.P.I.D.E.R. Been a while since I read it, but it was pretty good, as I recall. Hope that helps.
Spidey88
Re: Help - Criminal Organization I don't have any particular suggestions other than "check out some scientific names of spider families and such". Not only might it be good for some names, it'd be a good way to provide some inspiration too - salticid stealth agents, lycosa transports, etc. If it ends up being of any use to you, I'm more than happy to provide as much info on spiders as you could ever want - I study them professionally. Hawknight
Re: Help - Criminal Organization The T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents comic back in the 60's had an organization named SPIDER. On the cover of the first appearance was a guy with 6 arms in a sort of Hawaiian shirt and slacks. Don't know what the initials spelled. Hermit
Re: Help - Criminal Organization While it was actually a homage to the likes of the Serpent Society and not an 'agent type' organization, I use "the Spider Syndicate"
BoloOfEarth
Re: Help - Criminal Organization If it's a very secret group, I like Mattingly's suggestion of "Recluse". If more public, you could go with Araneae, or Venom. The latter might lend itself to being an acronym (for what, I'll leave for better minds than mine) and is general enough that you could introduce the spider elements over time and let the heroes discover the group's theme. Edit: On further thought, Araneae would make a good name for the female head of VENOM.

Lord Liaden
Re: Help - Criminal Organization For something a little less obviously arachnid, since spiders are weavers, LOOM sounds appropriately ominous. I'm having trouble coming up with a good acronymic derivation, though.

Major Tom 2009
Re: Help - Criminal Organization hawkfu: just saw your reply to my PM, and I have to say thanks. It's nice to have one's diabolical rat b******ness appreciated and found useful ( ). There was going to be a fifth type of agent in that list (a Q-Branch type technical specialist), but the only name that was coming to mind was Orb-Weaver.
