Narf the Mouse
Are you supposed to: A) Buy a lot of Skill Roll so you can use the power semi-reliably or; Frantically roll over and over again? Thanks.
Xavier Onassiss
Re: Bit confused by Requires a Skill Roll and I finally decided to ask Are you supposed to: A) Buy a lot of Skill Roll so you can use the power semi-reliably or; Frantically roll over and over again? Thanks. Both are valid. It depends on what fits the character concept, really. Or in some campaigns, what the GM will let you get away with. It may seem like buying up the skill roll negates the limitation; OTOH you've probably spent as many, or more points on the skill than you saved by taking the limitation to begin with. Another thing to remember is that powers subject to a skill roll are subject to ALL skill roll modifiers, not just the -1 per 10 active points in the power. (or 5pts, or 20, depending on the limitation) Your normally 'reliable' skill-based power could be difficult to use in adverse conditions; or maybe that not-so-reliable power is easier to use under the right circumstances. Old Man
Re: Bit confused by Requires a Skill Roll and I finally decided to ask [munchkin] What you do is buy up the skill roll real high so as to mostly negate the limitation. This works best if you then put RSR on lots of spells/powers. [/munchkin]
dmjalund
Re: Bit confused by Requires a Skill Roll and I finally decided to ask I once considered a magic system where everything was bought as skills, but the magic spells had +4 level of limitations (with maybe a maximum based on the skill level)
mayapuppies
Re: Bit confused by Requires a Skill Roll and I finally decided to ask All of the magic systems in Kamarathin require RSR and it works great. Even with the "talents" that give skill levels, it is a very difficult way to cast spells and really helps keep Kamarathin magic in the realm of difficult to perfect.
