Lord Liaden
Re: I am Spartacus And I am Spartacus especially with Xena going topless Producer Rob Tapert always did like showing off his hot wife's body as much as he can get away with. RexMundi
Re: I am Spartacus Sometimes Bad, is so Bad, it's good. Lot of us that grew up back in the days when VHS first hit, remember the huge rush of direct to tape fantasy that schlocked out all of a sudden (Anyone remember the Ator stuff?).....I'm sure there will be elements I'll like. After all, it's NOT, Uwe Boll. ~Rex
Rapier
Re: I am Spartacus I saw the first episode last night. BAD BAD BAD! I might see another episode or two, but that will only occur if I've completely emptied the DVR and nothing else is on. First of all is the overly gratuitous flinging and splashing of blood. Someone gets a papercut and the entire background is washed out in buckets of spurting blood...that doesn't even particularly look like blood. And it DOES have its Uwe Boll moments. Everytime someone gets cut, sliced or speared they drop to super slow-mo and fling blood. ALL blood flinging is in super slow-mo. They've also fallen into the trap a lot of cable shows go to where lots of sex makes good ratings. You take a show like Spartacus and throw in, what amounts to, soft core porn. I've got nothing against a little bumping and grinding but at least let it have some purpose in the story. They have HEAVILY used a green screen for backgrounds and the skyscapes are cartoony. They've used colour palettes and cloud designs that just don't look real. At the end of the episode I had to make sure what channel I was watching and it hadn't been a SciFi movie. Yes, that's right, the quality of Spartacus is about equal with a movie on the SciFi channel. UG!

Spartacus is like 300 with half as good CGI, one third the plot, and twice the stupid.
RexMundi
Re: I am Spartacus I agree, sometimes Bad is incredibly Bad. I had hopes though, heh. It could have been the 1983 Hercules. Lou Ferigno's the man, but wow.....bad. ~Rex

Lord Liaden
Re: I am Spartacus Raimi and Tapert's Hercules and Xena shows both evolved over time, so it's at least possible.
Rapier
Re: I am Spartacus Raimi and Tapert's Hercules and Xena shows both evolved over time' date=' so it's at least possible. [/quote'] The only problem is that it's so bad, they might not get the time to evolve. They've already lost me and I bet there are a bunch of others in the same boat. I'm typical, just like the rest of you (I would imagine). I can forgive a LOT of crappy TV if you've got swords and armour and the kicking of the bootay...but there is only so much I can overlook. Kristopher
Re: I am Spartacus If this is even worse than 300, it should be gone in a month or two.
Rapier
Re: I am Spartacus If this is even worse than 300' date=' it should be gone in a month or two.[/quote'] I didn't like 300. I felt they would have been better off making a motion picture than a 'motion graphic novel.' But 300 was much better than Spartacus. NuSoardGraphite
Re: I am Spartacus I just recently saw the season finale. I liked it! Admittedly, the first episode was way overdone, but I'm a sucker for stuff like this so I gave it a chance and it did get much better. The season came to a satisfying conclusion and they didn't "wuss out" on the ending. All in all, not too shabby. Oh and I did like 300 for the record. Then again, I like just about anything where people are being cut to ribbons.
NuSoardGraphite
Re: I am Spartacus maybe the producers will come to there senses and tone down the silly for future episodes. I think the concept has some potential. They totally toned it way down 2 or 3 episodes in and the show comes into its own around episode 6 or 7 and gets better as it goes. pruttm
Re: I am Spartacus I also finished the series and agree with [/url]NuSoardGraphite. I found it very well plotted and everything was done for a reason giving a very very good pay off at the end. Yes, the first ep wasn't great. They needed time to get some legs under the series. John Hannah as Lentulus Batiatus stole the show. Lucy Lawless as Batiatus's wife was very good as well. Pete
