Susano
A few days ago, you read about Clonehenges, art installations that are made to resemble the original Stonehenge. You might not realize that Stonehenge is far from the only ancient stone circle in the UK, and there are some in Europe and North America as well. WebEcoist looks at 13 of these circles, including the pictured Avebury Stone Circle in England, which is bigger and older than Stonehenge! http://webecoist.com/2009/09/07/everybody-must-get-stoned-13-awesome-stone-circles/
lemming
Re: 13 Stone Circles Or the Washington Stonehenge It was done as a memorial to the dead of WWI, though a bit of a misconception of the original. Suppose some Aztec temple would of been more appropriate...

gojira
Re: 13 Stone Circles I've been to Avebury. The circle there is huge, and runs through the town. Unlike Stonehenge, you can walk up to and touch the stones at Avebury. Or you could when I was there.
DusterBoy
Re: 13 Stone Circles I went to Carnac when I was a wee lad. We used to go to France, especially Brittany, a lot when I was little. The Rollright Stones were also missed off the list. How can you mention the stones at Avebury and in Cornwall, etc, and forget the Rollright stones? Feh. *shrugs*
Curufea
Re: 13 Stone Circles The problem with a lot of stone circles is that the locals used them as building material a thousand years later.
