Sean Waters
I'm (slightly) confused: if you have a power that is uncontrolled, do you need to have it persistent as well: what would that add?
CrosshairCollie
Re: Persistent and Uncontrolled I don't believe so. Since Uncontrolled puts the power out of the originator's control, Uncontrolled 0END should be sufficient.

The rules on the persistent add (unrevised, at least) compare it to uncontrolled.
Hyper-Man
Re: Persistent and Uncontrolled A Damage Shield based ability with both Persistent and Uncontrolled gets different benefits from each Advantage. Persistent means the Damage Shield doesn't turn off when the character is Stunned or KO'd. Uncontrolled means the effect of the Damage Shield on someone who touches the character is effectively 'constant' even if they stop touching the character. Doesn't that also require Sticky?
Hyper-Man
Re: Persistent and Uncontrolled Doesn't that also require Sticky? Yep. I was just pointing out a situation where both Advantages would apply to the same power.

Do you mean that an uncontrolled damage shield w/o persistent would turn off when the character was unconscious? If so, I guess that would be a special quirk of damage shield. I was just explaining a situation where BOTH Advantages could be applied to a Power and have separate effects on the final ability. Anyway, as others have already pointed out, Persistent and Uncontrolled are otherwise very similar and can probably be traded out with one another in many builds with little change to the final ability. I think I'm on the point. They only have "separate effects" if Persistent gives something Uncontrolled doesn't. I.e., the OP's question was whether you needed Persistent, and whether it adds anything.
Sean Waters
Re: Persistent and Uncontrolled The seperate effects Hype-Man mentioned come from the persistent element applying to the shield and the uncontrolled element applying to the damage: they are applying tot he same power, but different elements of it. Arguably you would need to buy 'continuous' for the power twice to make this actually work, or maybe 'continuous and sticky'. As far as I can see, if a power is uncontrolled then there is no additional benefit (at least to the same part of the power) to buying persistent...but I've been wrong so many times before that I like to check
