Tech
Last year, the third annual Christmas Champions episode was done - on Christmas Day, December 25th. Our group was at their base when the doorbell rang. There was Dolly from the Island of Misfit Toys. The king had been dethroned and Dolly was asking for help to get the king back on the throne. A zany character teleported them to the shore of the Isle of Misfit Toys. There we met Charlie in the Box and the other misfit toys that took us to the castle. The heroes were told the king of Misfit Island had been usurped by something terrible. They just had to help! The heroes, being good guys, set off towards the castle way in the distance. In the forest, they were attacked by all kinds of evil snowmen and ice monster. I had prepared pictures for everything which helped set the mood. Since they had never been to the island, Dolly was their faithful and constant guide which made the episode feel something like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindoor claymation instead of just another Champions episode. Unfortunately, one of the evil snowmen kidnapped Dolly during the battle. Fortunately, any person worth being called a hero simply followed the trail left by a moving snowman to the castle. Up the frozen slopes they went. With the real snow outside and wind blowing, the players inside could easily imagine the cold snow gently blowing in their heroes faces. At the castle gate they came, the castle cold, dark and quiet except for the chilling wind. The strongman of the group carefully opened the gates and the door so as to not destroy the castle on the Island of Misfit Toys. Going straight to the throne room, they faced the majestic yet stern Ice Queen. She had watched this island with cold distain for years. She had been the enemy of the king prior to him becoming the king and now she, not he, would rule the island bringing a frozen winter to the world the likes it would not soon forget. The heroes naturally inquired about the misfit toys for which she cared nothing. While debating with this cold queen, the speedster of the group found and freed Dolly. Dolly tried to speak respectfully with the queen but was given the (figurative) cold shoulder. When Dolly shed little tears, the heroes had had enough and a classy battle occurred. Maintaining some dignity, she did not fight to the bitter end but surrendered. The heroes freed the king (remember the winged lion from the show?) who regained his throne. The queen was banished forever. The heroes were royally thanked and welcomed back to the island. They did find children for some of the Misfit toys, but one in particular stood out. Dolly was given to the young orphan girl who frequently adventured with the heroes on a recurring basis. It was like an old fashioned claymation Christmas special and warmly received by the players. Our Fourth Annual Christmas Episode is a few days away... My thanks to 'map' for being inspired to start his own annual Christmas episodes.
