DJ Blackrock
Not sure if a thread like this has been done before, as my search-fu is weak, and this may not even be the right forum for it, so, mods, feel free to move it if you like. I was thinking the other day what my own, personal, real life stats would be, so I decided to write myself up in HERO system. Turns out I'm worth 123 points, so, theoretically, I could handle an average VIPER agent on my own. shadowcat1313
Re: What are your HERO stats like? years ago, there was an rpg called Timelords from BTRC, that had a set of tables for defining yourself in game terms, and it had a set of conversions for use with Hero that seemed to work pretty well. one thing we've always done skillswise when tinkering was having a job in a field for at least 1 year 11-, +1 per 5 years BS or BA gives an 12- MS or MA gives a 13- PHD gives a 14-

Not to mention the amazing level of our skills when 11- is enough to work in the field and 12- is enough to manage others. Villains and Vigilantes started out with the theory that you played yourself with superpowers, and you had to assign your own stats, in discussion with the GM (and possibly other players). That must have been loads of fun - especially as, unless I misrecall, they provided no benchmarks other than a 3 - 18 range.

Edsel
Re: What are your HERO stats like? I have always found these sorts of exercises to have mixed results. People tend to either be their own most serious critic or their own biggest booster. Most people either under or over rate themselves or do a little of each. Personal benchmarks are also a problem. For instance as I understand it a base Champions character starts off with a 10 in all primary attributes but the average person is supposed to range between 8 and 10 with below 10 being more normal. A Hero character starts off at all 10s since they are supposed to be player characters and at the top end of average. So everyones benchmarks are going to vary by a couple of points. The last time I was with a group that tried to design themselves (15+ years ago) it did not go well. The group determined that each person would design themselves and then the group as a whole would critique the result and make any adjustments that the group felt were warranted. Several people's feeling were hurt. As a result I am very leery of this sort of exercise. I bet it would work much better today if my current group did it. We are all more mature and have had years to develop thicker skins. I might try to get around to trying to do a self-construction but as always it seems I am pressed for time whenever I visit the forums. EDIT: Having known and gamed with Eosin for many years I think I can say that he really is that impressive. I am a little confused about how he knows we refer to him as "the Big Goofy Bastard" though.

I was a small, scrawny, incredibly uncoordinated teenager, and it was amazing how good my stats turned out to be in V&V. Really quite amazing. People in general tend to exaggerate their stats when they do these things, particularly INT, as, to be fair, we tend to be geeks, and we value intelligence as a group pretty highly. Which is why mine is clearly at least 25.

I have a lot of manual dexterity in my hands for drawing, archery, puck shooting accuracy, and precision knife work, things that would be represented by specific skills or skill levels. But whole-body wise I am a horrible klutz... trip all the time, bump into things, have terrible balance. Thank Heaven I bought Breakfall as a child, and have managed to avoid broken bones as a result... I pine for the days when my knees would let me be fast enough to run a 6 minute mile.
