The V-tail design was chosen specifically to facilitate egress/ingress by flying supers while the craft is in flight. Edit: incorrect name has been corrected. Check back periodically as I try to improve the concept. Right now* I can see there's not much headroom. More Edit: I just figured out this IS the Hippogriff, so I'll be making changes. Stay tuned. (Hopefully) Last Edit: I think I've fixed all the glaring faults so it probably won't change any more. On to the Pegasus! Hippogriff looks good... kind of slim and trim, but not quite... a different vision from mine... I like it none the less... My conception when designing it was a flying pig of a machine... not graceful looking at all... a brute force short hop, flying taxi versus the Pegasus as the pretty aerodynamic long range exec jet... The mapping of the cabin area is based on a Blackhawk helo and the wings are from a Harrier jumpjet... my mind's eye pictured over the fuselage wings with a fat bulbous body beneath... engines under the wings snug to the fuselage with rear exit ramp like a Sea Stallion... Must rep others, etc... oh well... more rep for you when I can... Thank you for all the pics... they will be going up on the Wardens Chronicles website properly credited as soon as I get a chance to post them... SSgt Baloo
Re: Super Transportation The Royal Rangerplane In late 1939, with the invasion of Poland, Scotland Yard petitioned Parliament to draft at least some superhumans for home defense. Parliament agreed, establishing the Royal Rangers. A visiting pilot/adventurer from America was assisting the RAF with some experimental aircraft at that time and volunteered to construct a STOL transport for the group out of parts scavenged from crashed planes. The forward end was (mostly) a Westland Lysander while the back was from an Avro Lancaster (after considerable modification). The resulting aircraft could cruise at 175 MPH and had excellent handling qualities. More importantly, it could seat up to ten normal-sized men (or British Lion and 6 other men). It was retired in 1943 after being damaged in an air raid. Various replacement vehicles were provided on an as-needed basis, but the Royal Rangers weren't to have their own aircraft again until the early '60s. SSgt Baloo
Re: Super Transportation Batplane II In 1940 Batman contracted Tex Jones to construct a VTOL craft similar to (but much smaller than) Tex's personal hoverbus. The result was the Batplane II*, which Batman took delivery of in November of 1941. The Batplane II is propelled by two ducted fans, each driven by a TJ-300 radial supercharged diesel 8-cylinder motor producing about 1,200 horsepower. Top speed is above 350 MPH, and maneuverability is superb due to the vectoring vanes in the fan housings. The thrust of the engines may be diverted through an angle from 95 degrees down and forward through 10 degrees up and back. The engine is tuned to allow a variety of fuels, from light fuel oil to 90-weight gear oil, but it runs best on a mixture of kerosene and heating oil. When trimmed for maximum efficiency (300 mph at 18,000 feet), the Batplane II consumes only 9 gallons per hour, making it more than twice as fuel-efficient than many automobiles of the day. *Loosely based upon the XP-67 Bat. SSgt Baloo
Re: Super Transportation The XP-50 was developed in 1940 by Tex Jones for production by Vultee Aviation. It is powered by an 8-cylinder radial diesel driving a ducted fan and is capable of over 400 MPH. Several examples were shipped to England just prior to the Battle for Britain, where they proved themselves admirably as they were nearly as maneuverable as the Spitfires and much faster at high altitudes. The Butterfly tail was designed to reduce drag while preserving pitch and yaw control. The tail surfaces are interchangeable, reducing the number of different parts required to be maintained for spares.

Beast
Re: Super Transportation D well Mk 2 lasted 6 game sessions and is now being retired as it is getting a bit small for the team(and a refigureing of points for the base got us a base ,a vehicle, computer and options for 1 more vehicle at a starting base of 210 points each that and I'm going on hiatus to act and sing at the norcal ren faire) in it's history it had only been damaged once for 2 body had Foxbat thrown in the secure room in his boxer briefs and mask(next time check the mask)only to have him escape and use the teleport system to move it 100km as a cover for his escape the DoJ also was respnsible for taking out 3 major villians and the squishing of thousands of zombies and bombing them from orbit in that thousand years in the future nightmare we got dumped in and barely made it home from Now to introduce The Dumpster of Justice mk3 the new DoJ is made from 2x48'cargo containers welded together then the liberal applecation of armor still to rival any battleshp but since my character Wraith will be gone for the next 12 weeks the DoJ would have no powersource to move it(this was so nobody could steal it or it's tires the batmobile can't say that) so it now can fly and t-port itself it looks like and flys like a brick it still has all proper emergency vehicle permits and can now act as a road block across up to 4 lanes of highway also the secure room is air tight and had a wheel lock put on it that can be tightened to a 55 str and can only be operated from the out side the handle on the inside will break off if more than 15 str is applied and there is a weeks worth of food for 10 inside the secure room(it needs to be replaced every week or it goes bad)so hope the team does not forget anybody place there in you may wonder why there is no affects desolid or teleport hardening that is because Wraith who sat down and designed it did not want to be locked in it should she be captured and thrown in the secure room you may aslo wonder why most everything is on 1 side except for the 3 rows of removable seats this is so we can load stuff into it Normally Wraith is the pilot and has no need for a view screen since she can see right through the DoJ but her team mates whined that if it could be flown now they would need to be able to see she gave it some windows with curtians Val Char Cost Notes 9 Size 45 Length 8", Width 4", Area 32" Mass 51.2 ton KB -9 55 STR 0 HTH Damage 11d6 END [5] 2 DEX -24 OCV 1 DCV -5 19 BODY 0 24 DEF 66 2 SPD 8 Phases: 6, 12 Total Characteristic Cost: 83 Movement: Flight: 10"/640" Swimming: 2"/4" Teleportation: 1"/2" Abilities & Equipment Cost Power END 20 Mind Link , human class of minds, Specific Group of Minds, Any distance, No LOS Needed, Number of Minds (x16), Psychic Bond (50 Active Points); OIF Immobile Expendable (Easy to obtain new Focus; -1 ½) 21 Mental Defense (19 points total), Usable Simultaneously (up to 16 people at once; +1 ¼) (43 Active Points); OIF Bulky (-1) 21 Power Defense (19 points), Usable Simultaneously (up to 16 people at once; +1 ¼) (43 Active Points); OIF Bulky (-1) 10 LS (Eating: Character only has to eat once per week; Safe Environment: Zero Gravity; Safe in High Pressure; Safe in High Radiation; Safe in Intense Cold; Safe in Intense Heat; Safe in Low Pressure/Vacuum; Self-Contained Breathing) (21 Active Points); OIF Bulky (-1) 58 Teleportation 1", x1,024 Increased Mass, Usable By Other (+¼), MegaScale (1" = 100 km; +¾), Can Be Scaled Down 1" = 1km (+¼) (117 Active Points); OIF Bulky (-1) 22 Flight 10", x64 Noncombat (45 Active Points); OIF Bulky (-1) 7 Healing 1 BODY, any [special effect] power one at a time (+¼), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +½), Persistent (+½) (22 Active Points); Extra Time (Regeneration-Only) 1 Turn (Post-Segment 12) (-1 ¼), IIF Bulky (nano bots; -¾) Perks 2 Fringe Benefit: Emergency Services Vehicle Talents 3 Absolute Range Sense 3 Absolute Time Sense 5 Eidetic Memory 25 Universal Translator 16- Total Abilities & Equipment Cost: 197 Total Vehicle Cost: 280 Value Disadvantages 20 Hunted: UNTIL 14- (As Pow, NCI, PC has a Public ID or is otherwise very easy to find, Watching) 25 Hunted: Viper 8- (Mo Pow, NCI, PC has a Public ID or is otherwise very easy to find, Harshly Punish) 10 Distinctive Features: Dumpster of Justice (Concealable; Noticed and Recognizable; Detectable By Commonly-Used Senses) 15 Reputation: graffiti target, 14- Total Disadvantage Points: 70 Total Cost: 210/5 =
SSgt Baloo
Re: Super Transportation The Caproni Lampo was a development of the Caproni-Campini. It was smaller, lighter, and more significantly, faster and more maneuverable. The first prototype had a conventional tail with both a vertical stabilizer and rudder and a horizontal stabilizer and elevator. When the XP-50 began operations in the Battle for Britain, the designers decided that their plane would have a butterfly tail also. This delayed production and the Lampo didn't enter production until after the liberation of Italy. The lampo was capable of cruising at 375 MPH. It was highly maneuverable and was more than a match for any propeller-driven plane with the possible exception of the FW-190, which had a slight edge in speed. One hundred and five examples of the Lampo were produced, and served the Free Italian forces through the rest of the war and into the early fifties, by which time they had been relagated to trainer status. SSgt Baloo
Re: Super Transportation The YP-54A Falcon was developed by as a follow-on craft to replace the P-50. While fast and maneuverable, the P-50 lacked the range necessary to fly escort missions over Europe from bases in England or almost any mission in the Pacific theater other than point defence. Having been allowed to examine a Whittle gas turbine engine in England during the Blitz, Tex Jones designed the Falcon with a turbine-jet of his own design. He retained some features of his ducted fan design, and the oversized first impeller at the front of the motor throws almost 70% of its airflow around the engine rather than through it. This helps keep it from overheating, and provides additional thrust at lower velocities than pure jets allow. The airframe itself looks quite similar to the P-50, but the resemblence is superficial. The roomy cockpit reduces pilot fatigue, as does the vibration-free (or nearly so) Jet-Fan engine. Instrumentation for the new, simpler powerplant is much less complex, reducing the pilot's workload, and making it less likely that a pilot would miss an enemy aircraft because he was still scanning his instruments. Pilot visibility is also aided by a much higher seat position than in the P-50. The wing is an unusual "swept" design. It appears that sweeping the wing to some degree delays the onset of compressibility and subsequent loss of control. The YP-54A is capable of impressive speeds of up to 600 MPH in level flight, and is being tested for maximum safe speed in a dive. To prevent overspeeding in a dive, the plane's flaps have been made more robust and serve as speed brakes. Cruise speed is around 300 MPH, while stall speed is about 150. The Falcon is expected to enter series production by late 1943.
shadowcat1313
Re: Super Transportation I posted the standard and fighter variants of the SR-71 in the other genres thread, how much difference is there in the transport variant you posted?
