SAVeira
There have been three major announcements of Golden Age comic book projects with weeks of each other. The next year could be a great time for fans of the Golden Age (it would be even better if the Golden Age of Champions was released). The Next Issue Project From Image Comics comes the Next Issue Project, an anthology featuring reimagined Golden Age comic characters by a number of big names. http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/index.cgi?column=ofo&article=2809 http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=11230 Superpowers This is going to come from the team of Alex Ross and Jim Krueger, who just finished Justice at DC Comics. This new project is going to be published by Dynamite Entertainment. Basically, they are going to update a number of characters that fallen into the public domain, such as the Black Terror and the original Daredevil. http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=121364 http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=121397 http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=122270 - Check this link for a bucket full of artwork. http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/wizard/005218984.cfm http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=11188 http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=11527 http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125175 The Twelve A 12-issue miniseries by writer J. Michael Straczynski and artist Chris Weston coming from Marvel comics. The Twelve of the title are 12 superheroes from the days Marvel Comics was Timely Publications. These 12 Golden Age superheroes were captured before the end of World War II and placed in suspended animation. The comic will cover them being revived in the 21st Century and how they deal with the situation. Basically, the same ground covered by the revival of Captain America in the 1960s. http://www.newsarama.com/Comic-Con_07/Marvel/TheTwelve.html The Witness: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=123542 The Black Widow: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=123693 The Blue Blade: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=123751 Captain Wonder: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=123753 Dynamic Man: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=124292 Elektro: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=124457 Fiery Mask: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=124602 Laughing Mask: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=124744 Mastermind Excello: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125096 Mister E: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125240 Phantom Reporter: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125392 Rockman: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125573

assault
Re: The Return of the Golden Age Mastermind Excello? Wasn't he the inventor of the spreadsheet? I'm a bit miffed about Captain Wonder making a comeback, because I use the name for my own Captain Marvel/Superman homage. I've actually got a whole Marvel Family thing going, with Captain Wonder, Wonder Boy and even Wendy Wonder. Still, there were two Golden Age Captain Wonders (http://internationalhero.co.uk/c/captainwonder.htm and http://internationalhero.co.uk/c/capwond.htm ), and at least two Wonder Boys, so I guess I will survive. The character will probably remain obscure enough to be ignored.

Narratio
Re: The Return of the Golden Age But what they didn't mention was that after 12 issues the art/writing team changes. Then Loe... Loe... Loe... damn, I can't type the name, anyway, he'll re-imagine the re-imagining for a new generation. Won't that be fun?

You think you're miffed--I had hopes for my own Captain Wonder character, and I'm wondering--pardon the expression--if I'll have to change the name. Frankly, I can't think of a better one. It goes with the theme song. I suppose I could join you in hoping this gets ignored, but that's not really polite. Oh well. At least it's Strazynski doing it. So there's hope for it. I'm not sure--I was ultimately disappointed by Rising Stars. His Spider-Man stuff was fairly good; I liked the three-part story leading up to #500, but the storyline about him being the "avatar" of the "Spider-God" left me unimpressed. If there's any Golden Age heroes I'd like to see return, it's the Archie/MLJ characters--The Shield, Steel Sterling, The Wizard, The Fox, The Web, and many more. And not the Impact versions, either--I would definitely prefer the originals with minimal updating.

Oh well.[/quote'] I'm not hoping it gets ignored - quite the opposite. I just doubt that the character will become prominent enough to be a nuisance. "What, there's already a character called Superman?"

That character was Captain Marvel clone according to the book I have on Canadian Golden Age comic books.

CpSpalding
Re: The Return of the Golden Age I have been awaiting these projects since hearing about them. For the past 3 years at Gen Con I have been running a game I call All-Thrills Comics. It started in 1948 and goes forward a year at a time. The heroes are The Face, Target, Captain Battle, Lightning Girl, Kitten, Doctor Frost, Man of War, and Marvo the Magician. I know a few of them will be popping up in Superpowers for sure.
