Lord Chuckles
In the board's opinion, what were the Most Powerful Avengers Group and the most Poular Avengers Group in the past 20 years? And if you want, also list from the entire Avengers checklist (100+ heroes) who do you think would make the most effective team, if it isn't reflected in the first two questions? I'm asking because I'm in the process of creating a new hero group for a campaign that I'm in and I'm coming up dry for ideas.
Narratio
Re: Best Avengers Group I think the most powerful was just after Wonderman came back to life. Then we saw the Beast, Wonderman, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Giant Man (Clint Barton Style), Hercules... hmmm, my memory is failing me, Yellow Jacket and the Wasp rounds it out. I think this was also the most popular with lots of character development in the stories (Beast & Wonderman walking back from a Roger Corman Festival anybody?) The weak points were Caps Kooky Quartet and the dire period where the writers had changed drug suppliers and were freebasing crystal meth in Night Train. That gave us the Dr. Druid trio. Supreme Serpent
Re: Best Avengers Group My dream lineup would be (ignoring Civil War etc. of course): Captain America Iron Man (Stark) Thor Wasp Pym (whatever version) Hawkeye Vision Scarlet Witch Wonder Man Beast Big group already, and can have others drop by from time to time, but this is the batch of folks that really screams AVENGERS to me. Bloodstone
Re: Best Avengers Group When I think Avengers, I think Cap, Hawkeye, Iron Man and Thor. Those are just the four guys I associate MOST with the team. It's hard for me to envision the Avengers without them. Several of my favorite Avengers are nowhere near the top of the list when it comes to power levels or popularity. I think I could have a hell of a lot of fun with: Cap, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Beast, She-Hulk and Ms Marvel. However, this would not be a very well rounded group, it's just a bunch of my favorite Avnegers from down through the years. If I was seriously putting together a power team it would probably be something along the lines of: Captain America - Expert Martial Artist and leader. The face and conscience of the team. Thor - Brick. Sure I prefer She-Hulk, Ms Marvel, Wonder Man or Herc, but Thor is the most powerful of them all I'd say. Captain Marvel II/Photon - Energy projector, and a damn powerful one at that. Plus the light speed flight and desolidification come in handy. Scarlet Witch - Mystical VPP user. This is assuming her jacked up "Chaos Magic" levels of power. Quicksilver - Speedster and jag off. Mostly the latter, which is why I need him on my team, since I've resisted adding Hawkeye Moondragon - UberMentalist with mystic level kung fu. Iron Man - Fills in a lot of gaps, crazy powerful and the science/technical skills. Plus we keep him around so he pays for everything. There are still some gaps in the roster. The team isn't exactly great when it comes to stealth or infiltration, for example. But it's the Avengers, so I'd have reservists around for those special missions. JmOz
Re: Best Avengers Group I think the most powerful team was in the early 300's with characters like Thor, Quasar, Gilgamesh (later Sersi), and Cap leading the charge...
Lord Chuckles
Re: Best Avengers Group Moondragon - UberMentalist with mystic level kung fu. When was Moondragon on the team? I seem to remember her on the New Defenders, then her headband was removed so, of course, she turns on the team. She was hot, for a bald chick. Wanderer
Re: Best Avengers Group I do believe that my ideal Avengers rooster is a modified version of the Busiek/Perez one: Captain America (tactical leader and conscience) Either Thor or Sentry (uberbrick and energy projector) Iron Man (all-around powerhouse, gadgeteer and the guy who pays it all) She-Hulk (brick and legal advice) Ms. Marvel (flexible powerful brick and energy projector) Wonder Man (immortal invulnerable brick) Vision (flexible fighter and infiltrator and scientific advice) Scarlet Witch (mystical VPP user) Either Captain Marvel II/Photon (energy projector and infiltrator) or Quasar (energy projector and cosmic VPP user) Either Wasp (infiltrator) or Quicksilver (speedster) (sadly I do not wish to have Pym and his pathetic self-confidence issues around, so Janet will need to be in one of her "single" phases) Both as power level and character interaction. Reserve specialists can add for some missions, but this has the sheer concentration of uber powerhouses that just screams Avengers to me. Bloodstone
Re: Best Avengers Group When was Moondragon on the team? She was never a full member of the Avengers. She was a probationary member along with Beast. He got full membership but she was only ever a reservist. All happened between issues 137 and 151. She was hot, for a bald chick. Indeed. Plus she earns extra points for being bisexual
Wanderer
Re: Best Avengers Group She was hot' date=' for a bald chick. assault
Re: Best Avengers Group The team that most says "Avengers!" to me is Cap's Kooky Quartet (Cap, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Hawkeye)... Plus Hank Pym and the Wasp. Not powerful, but neat.

Richard Logue
Re: Best Avengers Group In my home-grown Champions campaign, I have two groups based on Avengers homages. I have a hero group that consists of Captain America, Hercules, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau), and Starfox. And I have a villain group based on the antitheses of Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Henry Pym, and Wasp. I guess that says something about the Avengers I like. Oddly, enough, aside from Cap, I think my favorite is Hawkeye, who is not part of either of the above homage teams. The starting lineup of the West Coast Avengers has been my favorite single team of Avengers, and some of my favorite Avengers tales. .

Certified
Re: Best Avengers Group If I got to pick the line up Capitan America Iron Man Vision Scarlet Witch Hawkeye Wonder Man I don't have a good reason for why just those are the characters I've pictured for the Avengers. Tim
Re: Best Avengers Group For Quirkiness- The Great Lake Avengers For real - Captain America, Hawkeye, Thor, Warbird, Scarlet Witch, Wasp, Iron Man (before the whole bs leading to Civil War.) Spence
Re: Best Avengers Group Avengers Past and Present? Second Line Up Captain America Hawkeye Hercules Goliath (Pym) Wasp Scarlet Witch Quicksilver Swordsman Fourth Line Up Iron Man Captain America Black Panther Thor Swordsman Vision Mantis Scarlet Witch Hawkeye For me I liked the second or forth line up best. But I think the only automatic show-stopper is for any connection or inclusion of anything with "hulk". I know it is just me. But hulk is the CLOWN of the comic world. Something I wish would be forgotten or never happened. I would like to see more Scarlet Witch and more Doctor Strange types.
Dead guy on tab
Re: Best Avengers Group I kind of liked the Roy Thomas line-up: Yellow Jacket Wasp Goliath (Clint Barton) Vision Scarlet Witch Quicksilver Black Panther They seemed to be good a keeping the tradition alive like they were replacements (even though they have two founders and three of the first four recruits). In addition, they seemed to solve the problems in unusual ways (like Pym thinking love thy neighbor to drive Ultron batty). They didn't have any other continuity issues to deal with (e.g. see Iron Man 50 for details); so character development was also introduced heavily. Finally, it was the last of the solid Pym period where he was a thinking leader. All in all a good solid run.
