Hugh Neilson
Re: "Guard, begin the unnecessarily slow-moving dipping mechanism..." I remember a GM (sadistic, evil, vicious bugger) who enjoyed making death traps. He started on themed traps, then moved onto no-win aimed at specific power traps. Example, the hero (me) whose power was that he could assume a gaseous form, was bound and placed in a steel tube with a jet engine at one end and open air at the other. He was lying on a large pressure plate. He couldn't wiggle much but could have, in time, managed to wiggle down the tube and out. But, as soon as his wieght was off the pressure plate the jet engine would fire up and he'd be toast. Likewise, turning to gas would remove wieght, firing up the jet, at which point he was a gas caught in a high temperature, high pressure flame. Result the same. But, with 3d6 of luck, a massive push in power and the expenditure, on the spot, of 10 carefully saved experience points, I was able to turn just a hand into gas and thus was able to free myself, wedge the plate down and escape. After the night was over I rewrote the powers to show the new abilities. And I can fondly say that, if I ever come across that GM on a dark and stormy night, I'm gonna crucify him. Sounds like an excellent game session to me. And any GM out to get the PC/player would not allow on the spot xp expenditures.

A jet engine must be spinning at (IIRC) roughly 10% of it's idle speed before you can introduce fuel and start actual burning. It takes a little time (at least 30 seconds) before you're talking aboit incineration. You could probably have gone gaseous and been sucked through the engine (and blown back out again) before it was spinning fast enough to be both burning and turning. Jet engines are also very vulnerable to foreign object damage (FOD). It might have been possible to FOD out the engine with some of the stuff that had been binding you, thus destroying the engine (or possibly resulting in a fiery explosion (bad news, that). Plan A (turn into gas) would have been safer. Of course, if you (or the GM) don't know any of that, you're screwed.

incrdbil
Re: "Guard, begin the unnecessarily slow-moving dipping mechanism..." You put your players in deathtraps? That is so awesome! Most GMs only put characters in deathtraps. I totally want to game with you sometime. A small enclosed room with 6 guys, just back from a 25 cent taco special at a local taco joint, and a 6 hour gaming session is a special type of Deathtrap even the GM can't escape. shadowcat1313
Re: "Guard, begin the unnecessarily slow-moving dipping mechanism..." does the plastic jesus on your dashboard give you extra defense or just luck in that hybrid?

I'm not an athiest by any stretch, but I always thought that the plastic jesus on the dashboard was there to provide a false sense of hope?* *J/K! I never put plastic Jesus on the dashboard. I'd rather have one o' them half-nekkid hulee-hulee girls with the spring in her waist.

Of course' date=' if you (or the GM) don't know any of that, you're screwed. [/quote'] I was a draftsman, training to be an electrical engineer, he worked the print room in the Houses of Parliment. Neither of us knew squat about it. Think of it as an Hollywood moment. I've got another one. A few years ago I watched a GM do a death trap by an animal themed baddy, Kraven the Hunter on steroids. I think the GM had just seen the last Hannibal Lector film. So the good guy, a martial artist, had been dowsed with the musk of a female wild boar... Then thrown naked into an arena with half a dozen male wild boars. Big Russian 3 to 400lb jobs. A 400lb Russian boar doesn't even notice an 8d6 punch or even a 3d6KA, especially when he's trying to mate with you. A lot of beer and a bunch of amazing die rolls were made that night. Vulcan
Re: "Guard, begin the unnecessarily slow-moving dipping mechanism..." Sandblaster of the Gods was in a sidebar in one of the books, and I don't remember which one offhand. It was something along the lines of 1d6 RKA AEH (this room) Continuous, x4 Penetrating (roughly, I don't remember exactly).
