mayapuppies
A while back I posted about modifying the Central Casting stuff for random character creation in Fantasy Hero. Well, I have several players coming over Monday for an RPG demo and I wanted to create a couple of characters with this system to see how it came out. hehe, here's what I got: Random One Random Two
phookz
Re: Random Character Creation I always liked Central Casting - cool stuf. I noticed Random Two's background says "She has a natural ability to make others trust her blindly", but I don't see this reflected in the Characteristics or Powers. Would you do this as extra PRE, or some low grade Mind Control?

phookz
Re: Random Character Creation I've thought about doing that - even started once or twice, but the sheer volume of data entry brought out my lazy side...

Would you do this as extra PRE, or some low grade Mind Control? That's because it actually applies to the characters mother. Since it isn't directly relevent to teh character I didn't bother writing it up...However, I think I would go with the extra PRE to give it a more gritty feel rather than the "absolute" feel I get from Mind Control. mayapuppies
Re: Random Character Creation Interesting stuff. You could use an application like Table Smith to make it automated. Really, hmm. I'm going to look into that. I've never used Tablesmith.
mayapuppies
Re: Random Character Creation There is also Jason Yarnell's variation for his Kamarathin Campaign Thanks Curufea. I really need to get around to updating that.

Killer Shrike
Re: Random Character Creation Really' date=' hmm. I'm going to look into that. Its pretty easy to do basic randomizers, but they can get complex quickly if you are as obsessively geeky as I am
Sir Ofeelya
Re: Random Character Creation Why don't you use Markdoc's random Character designer. It is still a handraulic system but works really well. http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Castle/9529/Gaming_stuff/lifepath/character_generator1.htm Cheers Brian

Currently a bit wobbly programming wise. http://www.curufea.com/games/western/5e/packages_f.php

Sir Ofeelya
Re: Random Character Creation So what are you guys waiting for? Do it, do it! cheers, Mark But I hate computers. Unless I am at work I try to stay away from the damn things. I also like rolling dice to make a character. Has a comfy, safe feeling to it. Curufea
Re: Random Character Creation There are basically just two factors stopping me from automating a conglomerate generator based on Markdoc's, mayapuppies' and mine - boredom at work and boredom at home. Currently I'm a bit lacking in the resource of boredom so I haven't been able to work on it. I'm annoyingly busy currently. Soon though, soon. mayapuppies
Re: Random Character Creation I can't program my way out of a wet paper sack, but if you need help in some other fashion I am more than willing to. I also need to finish "creating" the tables.
Curufea
Re: Random Character Creation Kewl! If you can put the combined charts together that'd be good. Really what needs to be done is an outline of the steps in the character creation process, and what options should be available at each stage. Just a listing of "step 1 should use table X from Y's site and lead to the following" would be really handy.
mayapuppies
Re: Random Character Creation I'll get started on that. I'll need to de-couple my game world from my initial lists as well.
mayapuppies
Re: Random Character Creation Hmm, already seeing a problem. Markdocs system is heavily "class" oriented while the Central Casting system is more geared towards telling a historical story. I'm working on getting them to fit together. mayapuppies
Re: Random Character Creation LOL Well, hell I'm gonna take the next month off of work to make sure I finish this!! Actually, I'm really motivated to do this. I am realizing that I am going to have to completely disassemble his list in order to sprinkle it around the central casting one.
