Bazza
Re: "Neat" Pictures Wouldn't it have to have a bunch of small plasma teeth to really be what we're thinking? And I think that would probably fall into the category of overkill. awesome...
RPMiller
Re: "Neat" Pictures I like overkill. Rule 37: There is no "overkill". There is "Open fire" and "I need to reload". from "70 Rules of Maximally Effective Mercenaries" awesome... Okay, I think I get it. So, if I modify this picture slightly... This is what we would be looking for?

teh bunneh
Re: "Neat" Pictures There's a hawk lives in our neighborhood that sometimes catches birds and eats 'em in my yard. I've seen him do it at least twice, and I've found piles of feathers a few more times (those might've been from a cat, I admit). Ah, here's a pic of it! Cancer
Re: "Neat" Pictures Either a Cooper's Hawk or a Sharp-shinned Hawk. They are quite similar birds, both eat birds; the Sharp-shinned is slightly smaller on average than the Cooper's, but the size ranges overlap. Cancer
Re: "Neat" Pictures Accipters (in the US, that's just the Cooper's and Sharp-Shinned) are bird hawks: that is their preferred prey. They are also smaller and lighter than the big buteos (like the red-tailed), which are ground animal hunters.

The coloration is right, and the range is right, although it looks pretty small. I could be wrong, I don't know that much about birds or birds of prey. Cancer
Re: "Neat" Pictures For both of 'em, if you got trees, you can have them. Check here and here. EDIT: I have seen both here in Seattle (I have pics of a Cooper's about 4 blocks from my house), so heavily urbanized but forest-y area is OK with them.
