Ternaugh
Re: "Neat" Pictures Well, actually, it would look more like this for the US high-speed train: The Acela is designed to tilt around corners, so that existing track in the Northeast corridor can be used. They're capable of up to 165MPH, though they usually average just half that due to track conditions and traffic. The alternative would be to build dedicated passenger rail, like other countries. There isn't a lot of land available in the Northeast for the graceful curves of dedicated track that France's TGV requires, though we could probably manage them in the Midwest or West. I'd personally love the ability to hop onto a train and be in LA in a few hours. It would definitely be worth the fare for me to avoid LAX and Interstate 15. I also think that it would be great for Vegas tourism, as well. Cancer
Re: "Neat" Pictures I rather enjoyed the only Amtrak trip I took, and as a way to avoid the intrusions-R-us of airport security I'll seriously think about the train again for a long vacation. Shaves a few hours off the regular train travel time, and you get to avoid getting a group hug from the TSA.
