SteveZilla
Re: "Neat" Pictures I like the rust of the barbed wire in the colored pic' date=' but the B&W background with the mountain and grey sky. Could you colorize the barbed wire in the B&W photo?[/quote'] This is what I was thinking. It would really make the wire "pop" out of the image IMO. Does the liscense plate read "SHE L0B"? You mean I'm not alone? There was always just something juicey about a nicely loaded Shadow Hawk. I think part of it was that it's weight still gave it some decent speed and it had a nice weapons load (stock) that wasn't too heat intensive, not too ammo intensive and versatile. I DO love a Shadow Hawk! Actually, a modified Marauder (Large Laser and extra sinks instead of AC/5) is my favorite. But the Shadow Hawk is in the top 5. I tend to prefer all-energy weapons -- avoids nasty ammo explosions. A quick re-do of the 3025 Shadow Hawk to my taste: 55.0 Tons 5.5 Structure 3.0 Cockpit 15.5 Engine (Walk 5/Run 8) 3.0 Gyro 2.5 Jump Jets 5.0 Heat Sinks (15 Total) 7.0 PPC 3.0 Med. Cancer
Re: "Neat" Pictures We got lots of 'em around here. Most of the ones I've seen alive are 3-4 cm long, but I've seen a few which are more like 20 cm. And there's lots of their shell-pieces at the beach. EDIT: Check out these. That beach is 15 minutes from my house. And the Gumboots Chiton, at the very bottom of the page, is both edible AND you can find it with a metal detector. There's an odd combination for you.... I don't think I've seen that hairy variety in the wild, but I might have.

Every pic I've ever seen of a chiton has been top down, like the one in your link. That face-to-something-analogous-to-a-face shot really threw me. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary asks why does a living organism come to possess, as a species trait, a tongue covered with magnetite? Magnetite can be extracted from sea water, and it does make the tongue especially abrasive. The chitons live by grinding algae (etc.) off of rocks, pilings, etc.
SteveZilla
Re: "Neat" Pictures I wonder if the chitons can be tracked by a sensitive microphone/hydrophone use to listen for that particular grinding sound...
SteveZilla
Re: "Neat" Pictures So you did away the SRM and LRM to keep the Jump Jets ? Interesting variant. I actually increased the jump jets from 3 to 5. It's been my experience that missile launchers (excluding the Thunderbolt) tend to "sandpaper" the armor instead of "punch though". SRM missiles to 2 pts per missile, but on average *half* of them miss, and the other 1-3 missiles are all to (usually) separate locations. The LRM has similar problems, and weighs a chunk more. And if you run out of ammo, then you're carting around several tons of dead weight. Taking the To-Hit roll out of the equation leaves: Weapon Crits Tons Heat Damage Ranges SRM-6 2 3 4 2-12 3/6/9 Ammo(15 loads) 1 1 4 Heat Sinks 4 4 -4 ------------------------------------------------------- 7 8 2-12 (av 6) Weapon Crits Tons Heat Damage Ranges Med. Laser x2 2 2 6 10 3/6/9 6 Heat Sinks 6 6 -6 ------------------------------------------------------ 8 8 10 10 Damage in two 5 pt groups vs 6 damage in three 2 pt groups (and only doable 15 times).
