SSgt Baloo
Re: "Neat" Pictures Snopes sez it's a digitally manipulated image. The text that (usually) accompanies the pic is describing Hercules, the world's heaviest dog. SteveZilla
Re: "Neat" Pictures Snopes sez it's a digitally manipulated image. The text that (usually) accompanies the pic is describing Hercules' date=' the world's heaviest dog.[/quote'] I read that article before I posted. The only hard claim that Snopes speaks to is the belated* claim that the pictured dog was Hercules, an English Mastiff. *Belated because the first pictures that were passed around were, according to Snopes, without any acccompanying text. Later on, someone added the incorrect text identifying the dog as Hercules. Snopes does point out that the dog in the picture appears to be a Neapolitian Mastiff, and is either a photo manipulation or a real, but freakishly large, dog for its breed. If it's a forgery, it's the absolute best one I've ever seen, being done not once but twice! In both the front and back views, all the lighting and shadows are correct. The shading of the shadows are correct. All the perspectives are correct. Viewed under magnification (in a photo program) there is no visible sign of copy/paste pixel discrepancies. The jpg artifacts all appear to be consistent around and and across all the figures. A pic of the genuine Hercules and his owner: I believe that someone not aware of the true Hercules or of the differences in the Mastiff breeds had done some online research but didn't find the above photo and made an assumption that the picture in question was of Hercules. People can suffer from gigantism -- why not dogs?

Tim
Re: "Neat" Pictures If you look carefully you can see they took the dog in the photo and enlarged it. It's shadow is not as long as the human's compared to it's height. And if you look at the leash it does not match up to the neck.

It's shadow is not as long as the human's compared to it's height. And if you look at the leash it does not match up to the neck. The leash looks fine to me. I'm not sure what you mean about it's shadow being not as long as the human's compared to it's height. It's shoter than the humans, so it's shadow is shorter. SteveZilla
Re: "Neat" Pictures Well, then they did a damn good job -- made more impressive because he/she/they achieved it not once but twice. And Snopes should directly address the faked pictures themselves and not just the misidentification of the dog.

I'm not sure what you mean about it's shadow being not as long as the human's compared to it's height. It's shoter than the humans' date=' so it's shadow is shorter.[/quote'] If you draw a line from the top of the dog to the top of the shadow and do the same for the humans, the line for the dog is much steeper than the one for the humans. Remember to measure from the dog's shoulders, not its head (which would presumably cast a shadow across the man's body). I'm positive it's fake because I periodically hit web sites about Neos and Cane Corsos, and such a specimen is never mentioned. The missing hind leg is just confirmation.
