Will drudge it out tomorrow and begin converting the villains. Should have one or two done by monday evening. Thanks for the patience. Oh, and Question Man. I'll see about working some art and stuff out for these guys too. won't make any promises, but I do have some free time most nights if I can get off the darn boards! Now that I've posted and preveiwed him, I notice he has "+10 versus Range Modifier for Sight Group" (which is a focus) and "+21 versus Range Modifier for Normal Sight." Kirby
Re: VOICE of DOOM Are there going to be any Character; Background/History: Personality/Motivation: Quotes: Powers/Tactics: Campaign Use/Plot Seeds: Appearance: Meta Plots: Hmmm... Well, I was going to leave that to Enforcer, since he's done a good job (and probably better than I could). However, if I finish the one-a-day postings of all the characters and no other backgrounds have been done, I'll try to do those as well. Just note that Campaign Use/Plot Seeds/Meta Plots might not be up to par, since my campaign is probably vastly different* from most, but I'll try. *Set in San Angelo: City of Heroes. There are no aliens and does not have any of 5E NPCs that I don't put in there. Two carry-overs from 4E & before that I use are VOICE and The Seven Horseman. Lord Liaden
Re: VOICE of DOOM Another linguistic point if anyone's interested : the name "Graf von Grausom" was originally described in VoD as translating to "Baron of Terror," but that's not quite accurate. "Terror" in German is shrecken; grausom or grausam is an adjective meaning "fierce" or "cruel," with the noun form being grausamkeit. Also, a graf is higher in the feudal hierarchy than a baron, equivalent to a count. In fact you could translate Graf von Grausamkeit as "Count of Cruelty" and keep that classy alliteration. I can't sleep. My VoD is still in the garage with other boxes. But mostly, yeah, I am slacking. I'll get to it soon. I'll also try to add some fluff to my crunchy writeups...give me a bit o time. Kirby
Re: VOICE of DOOM Another linguistic point if anyone's interested : the name "Graf von Grausom" was originally described in VoD as translating to "Baron of Terror' date='" but that's not quite accurate. "Terror" in German is [i']shrecken[/i]; grausom or grausam is an adjective meaning "fierce" or "cruel," with the noun form being grausamkeit. Also, a graf is higher in the feudal hierarchy than a baron, equivalent to a count. In fact you could translate Graf von Grausamkeit as "Count of Cruelty" and keep that classy alliteration. I'm actually glad you brought this up. If I recall correctly, the author of the adventure/names stated that he would have changed several names, as the translation wasn't quite accurate. I *think* Le Maistre is another one. And if it wasn't the author, it was someone who did an earlier translation.
Enforcer84
Re: VOICE of DOOM Enough Slacking. THis is Steel Raven. Steve posted a 4th ed version of her. Basically a vengeful hero cut off one of her wings. VOICE stole a set of American Eagle's to replace it and she wears an armored costume. The more I post these, the more I realize I need to update these guys to 350 points. They're fearful looking, but so far, the THREE players who have 350 point characters in my campaign have yet to be beaten up. Guest Skaramine
Re: VOICE of DOOM The PD and ED seem a bit high for what is essentially a gadgeteer, but otherwise looks good. Rob Actually, she's a natural mutant designed for flight. Thus, her bone structure and muscle density are superior to a ground-based mammal. The so-called Hollow Bones Syndrome isn't to make birds weaker. When alive, and filled with biomass like blood vessels and muscle structure, the "hollow" bones are actually of superior tensile strength. Throw in body armor designed to protect her from losing her other wing, (ie: 30 Body in an attack), then she's well-set. She didn't design her weaponry, she just uses stuff designed for her. Lord Liaden
Re: VOICE of DOOM I'm actually glad you brought this up. If I recall correctly' date=' the author of the adventure/names stated that he would have changed several names, as the translation wasn't quite accurate. I *think* Le Maistre is another one. And if it wasn't the author, it was someone who did an earlier translation.[/quote'] That someone would probably be me. I had reason to question the translations of some of those names over the years, and I found a few discrepancies. I checked with VoD author Steve Perrin before posting them on his earlier "VOICE List" to make sure he had no trouble with my doing so. To be fair, this adventure was written before people had access to Internet translating dictionaries. Steve tried to find native language speakers to confirm these with, but sometimes his intent got lost in the translation. On the specific issue of Le Maistre, Steve was trying for "The Master" in French, which translates as Le Maitre with a small "^" over the letter "i" (sorry, it's more trouble than its worth to get my keyboard to switch to French characters). Since Irredencia has been (very well) written up here, I might as well mention that the nationalist slogan from which he took his name is actually Italia Irredenta, "Italy Unredeemed." It refers to regions of Europe with significant Italian-speaking populations, which the nationalists dreamed of unifying into a "greater Italy." (IMO "Unredeemed" is also a cool name for a villain.) Now La Pulga ("The Flea") is just fine as is.

Fair enough reasoning, but by 5th Edition standards, her defenses are better than Durak's, which just doesn't seem to gel, especially as she seems geared for SPD and DEX. I mean 35 defenses basically bounces your average 10d6 attack 100% of the time! I mean the Angel is designed for flight too, but if Rogue punches him, it's going to hurt. The villaness designed above would laugh at that. I know in 4th(and 3rd) defenses were generally higher, but if one is going to bother with a 5th edition update, it might as well conform to 5th edition standards(lower defenses being one). Ah well, to each their own I suppose....just that I wouldn't use the version as written. Rob
