I use them in part of a lab exercise in statistics, getting across the point that there's more to a probability distribution function than the range and the average. I have them roll 1d12 50 times (ignoring and rerolling 1's) and 2d6 50 times, make histograms of the results, and comment. I bought half a dozen d12's a few years back explicitly for the exercise. I can tell how few gamers there are in my classes because so many people are puzzled and surprised by what comes out. Besides, I really like the regular dodecahedron as a geometrical form.
