SteveZilla
Re: Musings on Random Musings Of course. Pi has been known to at least three digits for thousands of years. Narf the Mouse
Re: Musings on Random Musings The Ides are the 15th... Bah! The margin of error is only 1/365, which is clearly statistically insignificant.
Tim
Re: Musings on Random Musings Yet March 15th hasn't always been March 15th. Only for the last 400 years or so, has it been March 15th. Isn't that right, Gregory?
SteveZilla
Re: Musings on Random Musings Like I said, it may not have been *called* March 15, but regardless it comes around approximately once every 365.24 days.

Cancer
Re: Musings on Random Musings and the other would be Hebrew/Jewish. Not so. The Hebrew calendar is what is called a "lunisolar" calendar. The months are tied to the Moon, but the years are not. Extra months (and days) are inserted into the calendar according to a regular prescription to keep the High Holy Days (that is, the New Year) occurring at about the same time with respect to the seasons (that is, the tropical year). The Islamic calendar is strictly lunar. There are a fixed number of months to a year, and the months are set by the phases of the Moon. So the beginning of the calendar year drifts 10 or 11 days per year with respect to the tropical year.
