I had to crunch some numbers for a PBEM electronic soccer league I'm in, which involves some sums, products, quotients, and raising things to the 3/2 power, and very occasionally taking some tangents/arctangents. So I picked up the dirty slide rule my wife had picked up at a yard sale, and sat at the table with my son; I crunched my numbers while he gathered the facts for his report out the library books we'd checked out. He was fascinated by the non-electronic computer. It's a good idea to expose young'uns to the fact that there was life before computers and video games. Pretty much. But apparently they're stealing our hotel spaces (and the cheap rates) by telling people they're with the convention. Big meanies. Plus, I've never known football fans to be comfortable when clearly outnumbered by geeks. Reminds me of the year when Dragon-Con shared space with a Mormon convention. Heh. The first year I went, there was a Baptist convention. All these people in khakis and yellow polo shirts, looking generally terrified.
