Cancer
Osprey flying over the hills behind the house this morning. Talk about an unmistakable sound--the usual turboprop whine and rotor buzz, but also a really loud flapping sound, depending on the angle. Much larger in person, too. Never seen or heard one before IRL. I remember, in about 1983 or so, being Tucson when an A-10 flew over me and being stunned at how quiet it was. bigbywolfe
You know you are important by the fact that if you miss a day posting no one notices or comments. I've never seen anyone mention someone "missing" after only a single day of not posting. I have seen conversations like "I haven't seen so-in-so in a few weeks" "dude, they haven't posted in over a year".

The only times I have not are when I am on holiday abroad.
BlueCloud2k2
I usually assume that said missing individual simply doesn't check in daily. I know I don't. As much as I enjoy participating in these boards, I have other things to obsess over (like Skyrim).

Cancer
Oddly enough, a week-long out-of-state vacation with two young children is not nearly as relaxing as one might expect. Having been there ... I would not expect it to be all that relaxing, actually, unless you had something like grandparents in tow to give you a day or two off. lemming
Re. your post, C. -- I did my tax return by text message. While it only took me maybe 2-3 hours to do my taxes (most of that checking over reciepts for self business), I wish the US would get to a simplified tax code. (Just a straight progressive tax would be nice)
Cancer
This year's 1040 took longer because I had to use a form I'd never used before. For a $300 tax credit (we put in a new water heater last year) it was worth it, just took time.
Bazza
You guys do your own tax? I get a "people" for that.
Cancer
I take a few hours and do it myself. For a while we hired a pro, back when we were renting out our house, but after that complication went away it's been OK from my point of view. Old Man
I got a CPA back when my taxes got complicated and they haven't gotten any less complicated over the past eight years or so. This year is especially fantastic, because we requested an identity protection PIN after the 2012 burglary, and while we got a PIN last year, they failed to send us one this year. So we can't send in our returns until we get that straightened out. Joy.

tkdguy
All quotes from Monty Python and the Holy Grail are banned during our rpg sessions. Otherwise, we'd never finish the adventure. BlueCloud2k2
