Re: Musings on Random Musings

The one that I get a chuckle from is Kayleigh' date=' or any of the other bazillion anglizations of [i']ceilidh[/i].

For some reason the idea of naming a girl "Party" hits me in about the same way as does the idea of naming one "Chastity".

Both are just ASKING for trouble later on down the line....

The bit that gets me is the "I wan't to name my kid with a more or less 'normal' name, but I'm going to spell it in some annoying obscure way so that my kid has a 'unique' name" drive that so many people seem to have. Generally involving way too many y's, switching out k's and c's. Having lived my life with a somewhat unusual last name with an even less common spelling, making sure that your kid will need to spend lots of their time correcting people's spelling of their name isn't a laudable goal.

My older brother Chris and I got to name our youngest brother (picking from a list of pre-approved names that mom came up with). Chris wanted to call him Daniel Boone Denney. Can you imagine the problems growing up being called Danny Denney?

He ended up being named Adam Daniel Denney. :) As a note, Adam was the first name on the list that mom gave us. Hey, whaddya want, I was just short of being 4 at the time.

well yes and so do most parents' date=' even if only unconsciencly... when you picking a name for a child, you say it out loud to see how it sounds, don't you? Part of what makes a name sound good (or bad) is how it rolls off the tongue...[/quote']

That's how I wound up with a Latin middle name. People always ask me where my parents came up with it, and I have to tell them, "They thought it sounded good. Really, that's all there is to it."

This guy is not on the Hero Games boards. I'm not sure why not. I suspect he hasn't the time for another online pursuit.

But he does have a fairly wide and openminded audience.

And I am not one for poring over rulebooks. I haven't even read the whole rulebook cover to cover.

Alice! Having read the 5er rule book cover-to-cover is one of the requirements here! Turn in your Cryptography 18-, IIF(Ring; -1/4)!

Sorry. :o

(I must've put that into this thread. I thought I'd randomly mused about it at one point, but then I couldn't find it. That'll teach me to post right before I go home on a brain-fryingly bad Friday.)
